Advice on playing in a new league (1 Viewer)

A friend of mine (the commish) invited me to play in a brand new league he's forming (it will be through the yahoo).

I accepted the invite; however, I noticed that the rosters for each team (12-team league) have a maximum of 14 players. I've never played in a 12-team league with such a small roster. The 12 team leagues that I'm accustomed to playing in range between 16-18 players per team.

What are the advantages/disadvantages to playing in league with a 14 player roster?

Below is how the 14-player roster looks in this league:

Starters

QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/R flex, K, DEF

Bench

5 bench players (any position of your choice)

Thanks in advance for looking at my post.

Don't bother drafting backup QB, TE, DEF, K. There will be plenty decent one-week options on the waiver wire. You will have to be extra careful with bye weeks, though - ideally you would want a different bye week for each of the four, so you don't have to replace more than one player on your bench at a time.

The rest depends on the scoring system, but in general you would focus on RBs in the early draft. It is much more likely that there will be good waiver wire options at WR than at RB.

I agree everywhere but with TE. Maybe a backup TE depending on how your number 1 is. Otherwise, you can only carry 1 QB, D, and K. You need to hoard RB and WR as much as possible. Obviously, the pros and cons of this are numerous. You will have to work the waiver wire like a dog. Your RBs and WRs will hopefully have unique bye weeks. Other than that and assuming you can trade relatively easily, I would be assuming that carrying an extra RB will help you, if for nothing else, trade bait. GL. I disdain short benches. Takes a lot of importance from the draft and puts it into in-season management. In-season management isn't the most fun part of FF to me. Some people love that though.
