Congratulations to the Steeler organization. Tomlin is a class act and that play call on that last 3rd down was all killer instinct. That's the type of call BB makes to put teams away. Obviously kudos to Ben for executing it too. I think Ben is a despicable human, but you can't deny that he is the perfect QB for that team and a clutch performer. He was not very good throwing the ball last night, yet anyone who watched it would be hard pressed to say he wasn't a key part of them winning. He extended 3rd down plays with his feet and ability to brush off the pass rush time and again. Mendenhall was a beast, and the lack of tackling by the Jets defense in the first half will continue to make me sick for months. I did not see that coming The Pittsburgh D did exactly what it needed to do in the first half, get the Jets off the field and allow the offense to wear down and demoralize the Jet D. They can be thrown on though, and the Jets showed that in the second half. It will be interesting to see how they fare against Rodgers.
I give the Jets credit for fighting back and making a game of it, but you can't come out that flat in Pittsburgh for basically an entire half and expect to come away with a Super Bowl berth and the Lamar Hunt Trophy. I thought Sanchez played very well considering the circumstances, he's coming of age and I have a lot more faith in his long term development now than I did at the end of last year. This loss is going to sting for a while though. With so much up in the air personnel wise for the Jets it's hard for me to shake the feeling that this could have been their golden opportunity. The Pats will only get stronger with their loaded draft and it will be tough to keep this cast of characters together. The Steelers aren't going anywhere obviously, and the Ravens and Colts' windows haven't closed yet either. The fact that this team has been to consecutive AFC title games is impressive to me, but i'm hardly delusional enough to expect coming back again will be easy.
