So, 10 years, considered one of, if not the best pure runner in the NFL.

Would have demolished Walter Payton's record had he played out his career.

Left at the top of his game.

Some Barry Sanders Career Highlights

-Sanders holds the NFL record for the most carries for negative yardage. This is due to his common practice of running backwards to avoid a tackle in hopes of breaking out an explosive run; this, however, often led to being brought down behind the line of scrimmage.

-Sanders led the NFL in rushing four times. 1990, 1994, 1996 and 1997.

-He rushed for over 1,500 yards in a season for an NFL record five times.

-In 1997, he set an NFL record by rushing for at least 100 yards in 14 consecutive games and became only the third player to reach 2,000 yards in a single season. He shared the NFL MVP award with Brett Favre.

-Each of his 10 years from 1989 through 1998 he was first- or second-team All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl.

-Over his professional career, he rushed for at least 100 yards in 76 games, just short of Walter Payton's 77 games and Emmitt Smith's 78 games.

-His 18,190 career yards from scrimmage place him fourth on the all-time list.

So, 7 years, 4 of which might be one of the best 4 year span for a RB in NFL history.

The other 3 were injury riddled seasons as he tried to get back into old form.

Probably one of the biggest players in "what could have been" disussions.

Some Terrell Davis career highlights

-In 1998, Davis rushed for 2,008 yards, then the third highest rushing total in history. This performance earned him his third straight AFC rushing title, his first NFL rushing title, and his second time being named NFL Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press. In 1999, the Broncos beat the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII, with Davis recording 102 rushing yards and 50 receiving yards.

-Davis set franchise records with the most carries (31), rushing yards (184) and rushing touchdowns (2). Then, against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 1997 AFC West champions, Davis rushed for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns on 25 carries, vaulting Denver to a 14-10 victory and into the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Against Pittburgh, Davis posted his third straight 100-yard game, rushing for 139 yards and scoring his 5th postseason touchdown. His efforts assisted the Broncos to victory and launched him into second place for most rushing yards in a single postseason.

In the Super Bowl, Davis rushed for 157 yards, caught 2 passes for 8 yards, and became the first player in Super Bowl history ever to score 3 rushing touchdowns. This performance earned him MVP honors. He also was named the league MVP for the 1998 season. Davis also suffers from migraine headaches, one of which plagued him during that Super Bowl XXXII.

So, who's shoes would you have wanted to have lived thru?

Consider money made in the NFL as well as post NFL career earnings.

Post career quality of life.

Legendary status.

Basically, if you could choose who's life to live thru after they were drafted into the NFL, who would you choose?

As much as I love Barry, I would have to say TD. Simply because of the Super Bowl appearances and wins. Plain and simple, that's why they play!

Sanders has a lot of negative baggage: Child out of wedlock after preaching his views on abstinence, walking away from his team, leading the league in yards lost, etc, etc.

Davis was a hero who finally helped Elway and the Broncos get it done.

TD. hands down.

I pick Terrell Davis.

Playing for the Denver, with Elway, winning 2 superbowls is much, much, much greater than having great statistics on the Lions for 10 years.

And I'm a huge Barry fan.

Gotta go with TD here.

Surrounded by better teammates and coaches, and he set records in his own right.

If you include the postseason, his 1998 and 1997 seasons are #1 and #2 in terms of total rushing yards. His 1996-1998 regular season rushing yards are the best in league history over a 3-year span. And, of course, he has the best postseason rushing stats in league history.

He was never as talented as Barry, no one would legitimately argue that. But I'd rather be him.

Ask any pro athlete and I would bet the vast majority would rather win a championship than have the stats and play for a loser.

TD and it's not even close.

The only thing that made me think about it for more than a second was all the knee and migraine problems TD had through his carreer. I'm assuming if we are taking their carreers that the injuries would also be part of that and Sanders didn't have any injuries I remember.....

Every person that posted says TD, but the poll says Barry (12-11) ... are there any arguments out there for Barry?

For all the "coulda"s in Barry's heart (i.e. could have broken Payton's record, could have been a multi-SB winner on a good team, etc.), TD has SuperBowl and SB MVP trophies.

I'll take hardware over heartache any day.

Yes, post career injuries would be considered. As would Barry benefiting from a monetary standpoint from being in the HOF.

I went with TD.Although, Barry I think has the better legacy, as I think he will be remembered as a legend of the game, where I think TD will be mentioned in may of the what could have been discussions, and as a side discussion to the Elway being the best discussion.

I picked Barry... I'd love to walk without pain after my football career.
How do you know that Sanders is pain-free? He pretty much avoids the press and public now, so for all we know, little nagging injuries affect him on a daily basis, too. I voted for TD.

I picked Sanders. He went out on his own terms. HOF career and goes down in history as one of the all-time greats in the entire sport, regardless of position.

I consider myself a team player and want to win. I want to be around the best in our profession.

TD - but as a fan, I'm happy I got to watch Sanders for his entire career. (except when the Lions were blacked out  )

:kicksrock: Added to that Barry will always be in the NFL parlance when it comes to great running backs, Davis not so much. Unless they're showing Super Bowl reruns you don't see many flashbacks to TD. Barry you see referenced all the time. I think Barry left an immeasurably bigger mark.

Good Grief! To be able to run, at the NFL level, like Barry Sanders would be GREAT! Screw the Super Bowl rings and other stuff. When it came to pure running ability he was GOD. Not a god, the GOD! To be able to run like that must have been mind boggling. Plus, he apparently left the NFL in relatively good health, especially in regards to running backs.

I agree with Switz. I've seen Barry play pick-up Basketball in Auburn Hills a few times and played in a couple games against him at Oakland U. He can sometimes be spotted at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse too. He is actually very good and still looks like an athlete. Whereas TD probably needs help tying his shoes. Barry may still even be able to dunk, although I'm not sure if age has caught up to him there. His vertical jump looked pretty good for a guy that is probably only 5'8".

I'm sorry but you can keep the Superbowl trophy and all of the accolades. I would want to be able to play sports with my kids and weekend warrior friends. Plus everybody knows Barry was better than TD anyway. TD wouldn't have won any trophies on the Lions either and Wayne Fontes would have probably pulled him on the goaline too.

Sure, I picked TD because he has the two rings.

More importantly, I liked watching Barry run way to much to be him. Although seeing it from inside the helmet would be pretty cool.
