Alex Brown, Chicago Bears DE (1 Viewer)

Alex Brown, Chicago Bears DE, asked management to trade him today.

Now, could it be frustration at the organization. Is Brown unhappy? Does he not like what the team is doing since the Super Bowl? Frustrated over the Lance Briggs issue? I don't know. He could have just spouted off and nothing comes of this.

This could all blow over, but it doesn't speak well of both the Bears and also of Brown - neither is focused on taking that elusive last step to win in Arizona this year the game that they lost - the Super Bowl.

Alex Brown Wants Out?

Bears' Alex Brown exploring trade options

May 17, 2007

By Gene Chamberlain Staff writer

In an interview with Sirius satellite radio on Wednesday, defensive end Alex Brown revealed he had requested permission from the Bears to explore trade options."We're just trying to see what's out there," Brown told Adam Schein and Solomon Wilcots. "That's what we're trying to do. It's not the Bears. They don't want to get rid of me.

"It's just that I want to see what else is out there. I think I'm a very good guy. It's just sometimes you kind of want to test to see if there's something else out there for you."

Brown has three years left on his contract, and the Bears, at this point, aren't willing to negotiate a new deal at a higher rate. Also, they just chose defensive end Dan Bazuin in the second round of the NFL draft.

Brown said the Bears' initial reaction was that they didn't want to deal him.

"I love the team," Brown said. "It's just that opportunities come up, and if I'm able to get an opportunity somewhere else, that would be fine. I definitely love playing here, and if I'm playing here next year I'll give it everything I've got, just like I always do.

"I'm healthy. I'm not a bad person. I'm not a mean person in the locker room. I'm a good guy. I think some other people agree. It's just testing to see what my value is out there and how other teams view me."

Bazuin suffered a minor knee injury during the Bears' rookie camp two weeks ago. He's expected to challenge Brown, Adewale Ogunleye, Israel Idonije and Mark Anderson for playing time.

Brown said he wouldn't hold out and demand a trade regardless of the situation.

"I love playing football and I just can't see myself sitting down or sitting out or something like that because of a contract," Brown said. "No way. I'm going to go play. That's what I do. I'm going to go play. I love football. I wouldn't want to give it up."

i heard this on the radio today ... alex didn't really sound upset, or frustrated with the bears. he just said it real matter of factly that he would like to keep other options open. he also stated that he'd like to spend his career here in chicago. the whole thing seemed kind of weird to me.

3 years lef ton a contract that the bears are not going to renegotiate sounds like  to get more money.

Sorry Alex. You signed it.

I don't think this is a shocker after they drafted Bazuin with a 2nd and the way Anderson played last year. I figured they'd be moving somebody. I thought it would be Brown or Ogun. Maybe the Bears knew this was brewing before the draft and that's why they took a DE so high. Whatever the reason, it's looking like Angelo was right in taking a DE when the fans complained it wasn't an area of need. It might be now.

what are him and ogun making? i was thinking ogun was making quite a bit more .. might be nice to get rid of him instead of brown

Everyone looks way too much into theses things.

He probably went to camp in Chicago, it was somewhat cold and rainy in May. He probably has a friend on a southern team who said his camp was warm and the women there are already wear bikinis. If I was a 20 something year old football player I would ask to move to a southern team as well.

Sometimes there is just too much news.
