Alfred Fincher? (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know about this guy? Does he have any potential fantasy value?
I was a big Fincher fan last season, but was pretty disappointed when he was unable to crack the starting lineup after recovering from a preseason wrist injury. He couldn't beat out Ronald McKinnon on a team going absolutely nowhere. But now we're getting news that he's been elevated on the depth chart to the #3 linebacker, presumably getting MLB snaps with the first team in the most recent minicamp. And I'm loving Fincher all over again (see my sig for details).

He's got the skill set to be a solid, not spectacular MLB. But the situation is very good. He may not become a three down backer with Simmons and Fujita around (and Bockwoldt in the background), but he will have Kawika Mitchell/Lamar Marshall/borderline LB2 type value if he wins the job outright in July.

I disagree. I think he will have 2005 Brad Kassell-esque value at best if he wins out as a 2 down MLB ... Kawika and Lemar have much better situations as they are both 3-down MLBs (I think they also both call plays, which Fincher I think will not do) ...

Hmm. You might be right. But Ronald McKinnon, over the last nine games as the starter, posted 51 solos, 12 assists, and only a single pass defended in the coverage/sack stat columns. That projects to 91-21 for a full year. I don't know that Fincher can reach 90 solo tackles with the improvements on offense and defense in New Orleans, but the potential for those numbers is there.

Maybe the comps weren't the best since Lemar and Kawika are three down guys, but the point I was trying to make that Fincher's production could be sneaky good and crack the top 25-30 range if he wins a starting job.
