I have the first pick in my keeper draft tomorrow. It's a 12 team, H2H, points-based league. All teams have their 6 keepers so essentially I have the first pick in round 7.

Here's my team so far:

Matt Wieters C BAL

Kevin Youkilis 1B/3B BOS

Hanley Ramirez SS FLA

David Wright 3B NYM

Nelson Cruz OF TEX

Dan Haren SP ARI

We start C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP with a 10 man bench.

The league scoring is at the bottom of the post.

Here are some of the candidates for me at the first pick:

Jonathan Broxton RP LAD - He's great but as you can see below, this league really undervalues pitching... ESPECIALLY relievers. Only 3 RP's were kept in the entire league.

Aaron Hill 2B TOR - I'm a big fan and the drop off at 2B after Hill is gone is HUGE. I know 36 HR's is highly unlikely but the guy makes contact and 25 HR's is almost a lock.

B.J. Upton OF TB - I'm not a huge fan as I've been screwed over by him before. But he's doing very well in spring training and he has a ton of potential. But does the injury risk/inconsistency outweigh the potential?

Curtis Granderson OF NYY - I think he's in for a good year in pinstripes but do I spend my first pick on a guy that hits 7th in his teams batting order and can't hit lefties?

Kendry Morales 1B LAA - I really like him but I'm not so sure I want to fill my Util spot with my first pick.

Clayton Kershaw/Chad Billingsley SP LAD - I love them both but like I mentioned with Broxton, pitchers just don't score as highly.

So what do you think everyone? Who should it be?

BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -0.5 points

BS - Blown Saves -2 points

CG - Complete Games 5 points

ER - Earned Runs -2 points

HA - Hits Allowed -0.5 points

HB - Hit Batsmen -1 point

INN - Innings 2 points

K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 0.5 points

L - Losses -1 point

NH - No-Hitters 10 points

QS - Quality Starts 6 points

S - Saves 6 points

SO - Shutouts 5 points

You have to go with a bat - didnt run the math but, at first glance I would highly doubt pitchers are huge producers. For me, it's either Hill or Upton. I'm a good dissenting opinion as I like Upton way more than Hill. Upton's shoulder played a role in last year's numbers. Year 2 post surgery = much more power.

For me, the decision would boil down to two things - who else is out there at second (I'd rather have a gordon beckham than hill) or would settle on a J. Lopez or Kendrick. Seond - potential keeper down the line. Upton's ceiling is higher, yet Hill will score more RIGHT now.

Bottom line, as much as I like Upton, I would not take him under your scoring system. I would look for a big bat future freeze somewhere in the draft - i.e. Heyward...

You need a 2B, I'd take Hill and count my blessings and move on...................>

Wwell, the draft was supposed to happen already, but I would have gone SP. The point system favors guys that post a bunch of decent outings. 6 points for both a W and a QS. But I'd probably shy away from Kershaw because he's highly inefficient. Plus, 2b is fairly deep in shallow mixed leagues and replacement level OF is fairly high.

Thanks for the input guys. I went with Hill at #1, (and ALMOST had Upton fall to me in the second. He was taken one pick before me).
