So let's say I'm in the mood to listen to some nice, mellow beachy kind of music in the mode of Jack Johnson or Donovan Frankenreiter, but I'd rather listen to someone else instead.

Anyone have any suggestions for any newer bands/musicians? (Hence no Jimmy Buffet please...)

Bon Iver is weirder but awesome. For Emma is a fantastic album. Again, not as folky, but great stuff, and a current staple of mine.

I've got a slew of other acoustic singer/songwriter stuff at home and will post when I get around to it.

Dan Reeder, maybe. Definitely an interesting sound.
DanReeder.com ... apparently you have to go to MySpace to listen to music via his website. He must have Joe the Plumber's publicist.

Julie Miller, Ruthie Foster, Ollabelle (Levon Helm's daughter on vocals), the Rankins, the Duhks, the Greencards, and I strongly recommend Kasey Chambers.

Hell no. Her HORRIBLE, whiney, country-Australia-but-I-wish-I-was-from-Nashville-raspy voice is definitely not chilled.

Chris isaaks baja sessions
I hate every other thing Chris Isaaks has ever done, but somehow I absolutely love this album. Brings me back to Mexico every time i hear it. :goodposting: to Matt Nathanson, awesome!Found him listening to Pandora, pop some of these names in and start listening, that's what i'm doing.

If you want something with a latin twist, but real organic like a lot of these other bands

Listen to Nil Lara, try his first album

I challenge any pregnant woman to listen to My First Child without breaking down into a sobbing mess

Try plugging those names into Pandora and see what you get. I'm always pleasantly surprised by what it comes up with.
Ahhhh, I had forgotten about Pandora... excellent suggestion. Thanks.

ALO is fun. They're from Santa Barbara, they're on Brushfire, and always bring out the surfer crowd.

This is definitely in the vein of what I'm looking for. Thanks, Gunz.Oh, and :lmao: at Jack Johnson showing up in the video of that first link.

Was gonna same the same thing.Pandora has introduced me to many, many good artists from various stations I have created. As Otis already said, Bon Iver is a good one. He makes a great station.

Vampire Weekend? They have a sorta calypso island vibe to them. Also, this is an oldie, but Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys always deserves another listen.
