Amani Toomer (1 Viewer)

I don't see him listed on any WR rankings, and i think he's being overlooked. He has always had big play potential, and with teams focusing on Burress and Shockey, might this be a good year for him?

I understand his ceiling is at most a 2nd WR, but you never know.

Thoughts?

For this week, we have him as the 14th rated NFL-WR2, in the early-40s of the WR rankings. Toomer falls in to tthat range of WR in my opinion that is useful when he scores, but without TDs, his yardage won't be enough to justify playing him. Hopefully, you have better regular starting options, but he's definitely worth rostering as a strong WR4 for depth and bye-week coverage.

I think he's comparable to Coles in terms of his statistical attributes and values this year. He's a WR3 in fantasy, unless you're in a PPR league in which case he's a WR2.

Speaking of WR#2, does anybody feel that Peerless Price could make some noise this year or is everybody completely sold on the fact that Buffalo's offense isn't that good?

I'm not sold on Toomer for a full season, but I really like him for week 1. Going against the Colts there will be a bunch of points scored & I expect the Mannings to put on a show. Considering that there seems to be some sort of bad blood/concern with Manning/Burress, I expect Toomer to have a nice game. Truthfully, if you look at the last half of last season, Toomer's numbers were just as good as Plax's (actually nicer as far as receptions). The situation reminds me of the Bucs at the beginning of last year. If people had looked, Galloway put together a nice 5-6 weeks at the end of the 2004 season. Forshadowing his 2005 success. I won't predict that kind of success for Toomer, but it did look like he & Manning got on the same page as the season progressed.

I am higher than most on Toomer. One He went in the late 18th round of an initial dynasty draft this summer full of strong owners from this board.

Toomer had 7 games with five or more receptions. He had seven TDs. Here is the game logs: http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1262/gamelogs/2005

Plax did outscore Toomer by 2.75 ppg last year in PPR leagues. But, Plax is considered a borderline WR1/WR2, while Toomer is a GREAT WR4.

Toomer even had over 100 targets again in 2005. I expect him to have another three or four years left in his career. Eli is improving and should help stabilize those numbers.

Last year, he had almost half of his games with atleast 5 catches. That shows me that Eli is looking to him consistently.

I'll let you in on my secret about Amani Toomer. I ALWAYS try to trade for him or pick him up on the waiver wire around week 8. For whatever reason, he's always been much, much better in the 2nd half. Wouldn't be surprised to see him throw up 5 or 6 dog games out of the first 8...Just the way he rolls..

That meshes well with Bledsoe's early season success and late season fades. It would be interesting to work a mid-season trade of one for the other (obviously with something else thrown in).

I didn't know he'd earned a roster spot. Good for him. GO VOLS!

Eli LOVES looking for Toomer in the Red Zone. He almost looks for him too much. 8 TD's is not out of the question.

 There was some talk after the playoffs last year about the frustration, but that seemed to have died awhile back. I didn't notice anything obvious at either preseason game I was at.In fact, I think the only "long" pass Manning threw all pre-season went to Plax.

Disagree.Toomers targets are limited as the 3rd or 4th option for the Giants.Coles is the undisputed 1st target for the Jets. He seems to be healthy again, is paired up with a guy that loves throwing to him, and is playing for an awful offense with a non-existent running game. I think Coles upside is much closer to top 15 while Toomer is around 40 or so.

Coles is a farce, he always has been an underacheiver. He is a slightly above average WR in a very bad system.

Nonetheless, he still was the #13 WR the last two years he's been healthy and paired with Pennington.Even if you knock him down 20 spots based on opinion of him, his upside is still significantly higher than Toomers, who last year ranked #32 and has no change in his situation over last year.*edit to correct ranking error*

I've only seen one Giants game this preseason & that was something the announcers discussed throughout the whole period the starters were in. Burress is an immature player & there is an issue between him & Manning. I don't really have an opinion on whether it would make any difference in either players numbers, but if things start going south, Plax could be a problem. He has now shown that side in both Pitt & NY, it probably won't be a problem, but there is always the chance.

I ended up with Toomer in both of my 12-team money leagues, one in the 12th round, the other in the 13th. I wasn't planning on owning him in either but in both he fell to the point where he represented value. He'll be WR4 or WR5 for me. I'll use him to cover bye weeks, anything else is a bonus.

You guys are crazy to think Toomer is a good WR3 or WR4. I'd be suicidal if he was my WR3.

He is a viable bye week filler, I'll give you that. But unless Plax goes down, he will likely have an inconsistent year with 45-50 rec & 4-5 TDs.

Toomer's ADP is the 13th round in a 12-teamer, that would make him likely the 5th or 6th WR drafted on a team. He could outperform that draft position, but is nowhere near fantasy starter material.
