My daughter was in a minor traffic accident Saturday. When the police officer arrived, they just exchanged information and he told my daughter she would need to fill out an accident form and mail it into the state within 10 days. (she hasn't mailed it yet) Today, we received a letter in the mail from a local attorney stating that he was aware she was in an auto accident and that he represents injured parties. 

How did this guy get her information? And so quickly. Seems odd..

just guessing: if police/CHP/troopers are dispatched to an accident, there's likely a public record of that encounter.  sounds like this attorney accesses that info and goes on fishing trips.

There was some kind of report filled out by the officer. It's public record.

This reminds me of the scene in the kitchen in Boiler Room when the husband tells his wife about the Farrowtech investment he made with Seth. "How'd you hear about this guy? " "Oh, he contated me."

Wonder if any cops make some cash on the side alerting attorneys about accidents and the people involved.

Ambulance chaser is a derogatory term for a certain type of lawyer. I assumed if one needed to get business this way they are considered to not be good.

In November, 2015  I was hit by a drunk driver. Minor damage to my car and i was not injured. For weeks afterward I received the same type mailings.

I had a deranged animal hoarding cat lady neighbor go to the courthouse and fill out 7 pages of bull#### criminal accusations against me. I found out about it a week later, when the flood of attorney's letters arrived in the mail, offering to defend me.

My car insurance spiked this year as these type of claims have driven costs to the insurer up substantially.
