America collapses tomorrow. You're forced to move elsewhere. What country do you pick? (1 Viewer)

Spain.  While I really like France (from a couple of trips), I found last summer that I enjoy Spain as much or more - great red wines; excellent food; lovely ladies; the concept of siestas ...lots going for it.

Either Austraila/New Zealand or somehwere in Europe, depends on the type of collapse.  Canada sounds like a good answer but depending on the type of collapse they might not be safe either.   If all of western society is collapsing probably Uruguay otherwise some remote island or city that remains friendly.

Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it

With transportation down I would head in this direction from Ohio, who wants to freeze to death in Canada?  First I'd get together with my best friend that has a lot of guns though.  Lol

Probably end up in Panama, Costa Rica or Belize
This is why I'm heading to Canada.  The majority of people will want to head south because it's warmer and easier.  I want to be away from people.  It will be safer and will be more food available for me.

Germany.  They've lost two world wars and are still the strongest country in Europe. On top of their social and economic stability, there is beautiful countryside, great cities and great beer.  All that plus, I'm a little over half German and spent 4 years in school learning the language (still can't speak it worth a crap, though).

Would you say you know a little German?

Have you Australian lovers seen the wildlife there. No thx. I dont even ever want to visit and I know its a great place

Costa Rica is really good for expats to transition to and it's tropical.

Canada has a lot of beautiful and remote land, plus all the hockey I could handle (which is quite a bit).

Living in northern Indiana, Canada would be the easiest to get to, but if I felt I could make it to Costa Rica...I dunno. Tough choice. But it'd definitely be one of the two.

i want to do this right now, but can't get the wife on board...
I actually live in a log cabin right now on 3.5 acres of prairie just outside of a small town.  The only thing I'm missing that I really want is a stream or pond.  I'm always looking for more land with timber and a stream for a reasonable price but land is not cheap around here.

My checklist would be:

  • English speaking - I know no other languages and I'm too old and stupid to learn a new one
  • IT jobs - I don't know any other fields and I'm too old and stupid to learn a new one
  • Mild climate - I don't like cold weather and would hate a place where you get a lot of cold/snow/winter weather
  • Safety/Family friendly - I figure this is most places but would eliminate a lot of ares in S.America/Central America/Africa/Eastern Europe

What kind of collapse are we talking about?  I'm assuming we're talking about something that would cause mass chaos.  If that's the case everyone is going to struggle to get too far from the US.  If there's a collapse it's unlikely you're flying anywhere.

Are we assuming other countries are just going to accept a bunch of immigrants?

Belize is one of my targets as a retirement location. Hopefully I'm already there if we have such a collapse. If I am still in the US, chances are that I won't have access to assets that would fund such travel, nor would other countries let me in. I will probably just have to weaponize and make do locally.

Brasil and Denmark b/c they're both awesome.  I'd stay in Copenhagen from May-Oct and then jet down to Rio or Florianapolis for the rest of the year.

Wouldn’t you need to choose a country whose financial and geopolitical security is least dependent upon a viable US economy and military?  Somewhere that, if the US collapses, they could stay afloat and avoid mass hysteria?

Given how ubiquitous the US’s financial and military reach is, that’s gonna be tough.

Also, somewhere where you could be self-sufficient and survive on subsistence farming/fishing/hunting/trading.

I can't tell if this thread is about what country you would want to visit the most, retire in the most or move to in order to survive the apocalypse.
