It would of saved us the embrassement of watching Robinson trying to tackle someone.Maybe its just me but I never could picture Lomu in the NFL. Maybe due to his running style.Spot on. It's a real shame that proposed Jonah Lomu move never got off the ground a few years ago, because that might have opened some eyes; the South Seas might be a prolific source for NFL players one day. I often wonder how Jason Robinson would have got on if he'd tried the NFL; sad thing is most people reading this board won't know who he is, but think a combination of Warrick Dunn and Tiki, only much quicker and a little more powerful. But more to the point, developing the NFL worldwide means kids get into the game at an earlier age, and learn the nuances.Maybe in fifty years' time it will actually mean something when the Superbowl winners are proclaimed the "World Champions".There's no reason why Football has to be a US-only-sport, any more than why soccer (yuk) or rugby had to stay British-only sports.(posted by a British FBG member, NFL-loving, soccer-hating).Think of how few foreign athletes football is actually getting. There's a huge untapped potential there. Think of how many LaDanian Tomlinsons or Peyton Mannings or Tom Bradys or Michael Vicks that we never saw because they were born in Lithuania, or Argentina, or Japan.
I am sure the average guy in Liverpool has no idea who Peyton Manning or Michael Vick is, just like the average guy in Indianapolis or Atlanta has no idea of the name of any player on Liverpool's soccer team. Teams already complain when they have to play on a short week on the opposite coast. Just wait for their reaction when they find out they're playing an important matchup in Tokyo or Sydney.Bad idea.Instead of seeing Jim Sorgi square off against Matt Schaub, people would be treated to a game between Manning and Vick....you tell me which would draw more interest?
Not to mention the first greedy owner to relocate their team out of the country! Holy crap, the fallout from this.It was bad enough when the Irsays moved the Colts to Indy, think of them going to Liverpool. I think it will dilute the interest of the US fan base. I mean how many of us watch the Tokyo Bowl live? How many would watch a Clev. vs. Balt. game at 3AM? Or any 2 teams for that matter?I am sure the average guy in Liverpool has no idea who Peyton Manning or Michael Vick is, just like the average guy in Indianapolis or Atlanta has no idea of the name of any player on Liverpool's soccer team. Nope it wouldn't. If it is not a regular season game with starters playing full time you can kiss attendance and impact goodbye. This from a foreign NFL fan living outside of the USThis game should be a preseason game not a regular season game. It would still be greatly attended and still bring in money.
I am from Canada and love the NFL far more than the CFL, but why would a country that all ready has a professional league do this? I assume it is for money reasons but I think it is stupid.
I hardly think its about hating foreigners and don't really see anyone in here using that mentality. Its about creating an unfair playing field for the 4 teams involved, especially the ones that are losing a home game in the deal. But you go ahead and keep making your assumptions as to why people are up in arms.Hate foreigners much?Good god folks, chill a bit.If you don't like it, revoke your season tickets. If you don't want your tax money to go to the teams, then vote in legislatures that wont give it to them.Stop all the whining.Football is entertainment. Americans dont have dominion over it.
Fella, this has nothing to do with hating foreigners. You said that not me. Revoking my season tickets, does nothing to prove the point. They could care less. You obviously don't have season tickets. Unless you are put into the situation, howz about you move along to something you have a right to gripe about.Hate foreigners much?Good god folks, chill a bit.If you don't like it, revoke your season tickets. Your right, I dont have season tickets. I think they are a waste of money. You do, congratulations.I didnt know season ticket holders were the only ones who could have an opinion of how the team is run. I go to games occasionally, I buy merchandise, etc...It is one game every 16 years. Is it really that big of a deal? Maybe get a plane ticket and go see the team in the country they are playing in. Be a global season ticket holder. Show the world what true fans y'all are.1 game every 16 years. YawnFella, this has nothing to do with hating foreigners. You said that not me. I'm all for it...as long as it is preseason games. The NFL Europe idea tanked for many reasons. These reasons have clearly been forgotten by the owners.suck it up....its one home game in 16 years, and it is giving fans all over the world a chance to see a game live that they never have a chance of seeing. It is great for the game....bad for you for ONE F'ING SEASON! Stop being so selfish, and think of those around the world that will get to see the game they love LIVE!Exactly. And many of those same fans pay or have paid some type of seat license or state/county tax to refurbish/rebuild their home statium. Now millions of dollars are taken away from that region and given to some foreign city? It really is bull####.All of the positives listed here I would not argue with...but all of these positives can still be accomplished by using a preseason game instead of a regular season one.Do you think the owners are going to somehow reduce the cost of my season tickets since there will be one less game to attend? No way! This is a major ripoff of the fans that made this league what it is to date.I am %issed!Use a damn preseason game, you know, the ones you already rip us season ticket holders up for?!
Let's not forget three time Pro Bowler, Darren Bennett.Definitely some foreign punters. Mat McBriar in Dallas and Ben Graham for the Jets are two Aussies playing currently. In fact, Graham played a decade in our major football code before switching to the gridiron. In the late 80's and early 90's Colin Scotts played as a LB for the Caridnals, I think, after a minor rugby career in Australia. And in the 60's a bloke by the name of Ridgwell, I think, was the Dallas punter after playing Aussie Rules for a few years. That's just the Aussies I know of so no doubt there's been others from around the world. They do now only they don't often play more than ST. I believe every team can file an exemption for one foreign player and have an added roster spot. I think only a handful of teams do this. The level of play from foreigners is not there yet but NFLE has improved it. Scott McCready is a fun guy to read about if you ever have time. He has more catches in NFLE history than anyone. Having played NFLE FF, I can tell ya he's "money" in PPR. 4-5 catch lock. He's in an NFL camp most summers and returns without a contract every year. Last team I recall was the Chiefs. He's slow and not the most muscular guy but I gotta tell ya, every time I see him play I think of Chrebet and countless others that got it done. I wish I could make a team put him in a real game. I'm just certain he'd get a key 3rd down or somesuch, he's ...well, obviously they disagree with me.I believe there is a chinese(from China) player in the NFL, no roster exemption but genuinely made a team. I think I read that in September. Their might be a foreign punter in the NFL now.American talent in NFLE seems to still need another year of development after NFLE. 2 years ago, Ruvell Martin was MVP and Rich Scanlon was defensive MVP. Ruvell's playing now, as you know. Scanlon can't beat out Kawika Mitchell but now the Chiefs are finding time for him, a sorta compliment to a quality backup. (Hurt lately thought on injury report) A back, Jonathan Smith, was awesome 2 years ago but wrecked his ankle. Titans paid him last year to keep tabs on him. He couldn't come back from it. This year's guy was Roger Robinson. Arizona was impressed with him but cut him. I don't really understand that but nonetheless I wouldn't be surprised if(added year mentioned above) next year his name pops up in the NFL. So the american talent in NFLE is getting better too and that's important for the foreigner's development. All in all I think we're a few years away but it's coming. I will absolutely welcome the "try hard to prove myself in america" attitude around some of these pamperred NFL stars. It'd inadvertently force an attitude adjustment or rededication to the game by some NFL players. It may be a while off but there will come a time when foreign players regularly fill NFL rosters.Hopefully the discovery that there is a world outside the US border won't upset too many.![]()
how do you figure? The NFL Europe idea tanked for many reasons. These reasons have clearly been forgotten by the owners.
where's he from? Also, NFL has had it's share of "army brats" that were born in other countries and bounced around country to country. I guess due to the US Army, I consider them american regardless.Let's not forget three time Pro Bowler, Darren Bennett.
NFLE is primarily in Germany and NFL already does pretty well in GermanyUSA football will catch on in Germany over the next 50 years
Born in Sydney 1965. Played in the seniors in Australian Rules Football for the West Coast Eagles (inaugral season) and then the Melbourne Demons before trying out for the NFL.where's he from? Also, NFL has had it's share of "army brats" that were born in other countries and bounced around country to country.
