An Open letter from Dylan Farrow regarding Woody Allen (1 Viewer)

I'm sure this was a one time thing and not a pattern of Woody having sex with his children.

"I didn’t know that my father would use his sexual relationship with my sister to cover up the abuse he inflicted on me."

This sentence actually says a lot. Not presuming guilt or innocence, but it's there. Crazy and sad.

are people shocked? are they not aware of how he met his current wife?
I think many people thought, even at the time, that the allegations concerning Dylan were made up by Mia in her anger over the Soon Yi thing.
I don't doubt the possibility that these allegations are false. Maybe I misread Binky's post, but it seemed like he was saying, "wait a minute! it seems like Woody Allen might be a little creepy."

I know nothing about the Woody Allen back story. What does she mean by this statement? Who is her sister?

Her adopted sister, who Woody Allen then married. Soon Yi. It's just...a crazy story. Mia Farrow adopts a daughter, Woody then marries her later. For more clarity, click the link below.

Mia Farrow adopted Soon-Yi Previn around 1979. Shortly afterwards, Mia began dating Woody Allen (although they never married).

A few years later, Mia and Woody adopted Dylan Farrow.

In 1992, it was discovered that Woody was having a relationship with Soon Yi (who was 20 years old at the time).

Woody and Mia then had a big custody battle over Dylan, during which Mia accused Woody of molesting Dylan. (A judge ruled that the sex abuse charges were inconclusive.)

Love Woody Allen's films. If this is true, he's a terrible guy. Doesn't make him any less of a great director. But it does make him a really awful person.

He was accused of this back when the whole thing blew up in 93. But most people believed it was Mia being angry about Soon Yi.

That's what I figured. Still not sure this isn't true, although I don't want to call this girl a liar.

So, the theory is that both Mia and Dylan are in on this lie as retribution for Soon Yi, who by all accounts, has been a willing participant and, in fact, is not his wife of 20 years? That he raped a seven year old? I love Woody's films, but that is very hard to believe. I'm inclined to believe her.

It's very probably true, I also am inclined to believe her. That POS ought to be in jail, and it doesn't make a bit of difference that he was a great filmmaker.

It is hard to believe that she would lie. I agree with you.

On the other hand, while Woody has always displayed a predilection for "Lolita" type of young- teenage girl infatuations (from Manhattan's lead character to Soon Yi in real life), there's never been any indication whatsoever that he was into pre-pubescent stuff.

Oh, well. That answers that question.

Were you expecting me to decide whether he's guilty or not?

It's a pretty significant leap from being inclined to believe her to that POS ought to be in jail.

Well, jumping to conclusions based upon partial evidence is your MO.

Well, she is either telling the truth or she is not. If she is, then he ought to be in jail. If she isn't then he ought to be left alone. Is that good enough for you?

Who would have thought a very tiny and very insecure man would be capable of such sexual perversion?

Considering we'll never know what happened, saying that POS ought to be in jail reads like you think "that POS ought to be in jail."

Your acuity is astonishing.

Woody is an interesting case study for sure. Until now, as "obvious" as it was, you had just enough plausible deniability that you could brush his actions and soo-yi as part of an eccentric artist's life.

Hopefully this letter makes the reality a bit more clear for all and destroys that facade.

What does Dylan Farrow have to gain at this point by lying? The guy did it. He's a POS and at the absolute minimum decent people should boycott every thing associated with the scumbag.

I've only boycotted one movie artist- Mel Gibson- but that's because I heard what he had to say with my own ears. I have trouble believing she would lie as well, but that is not proof.

His movies are annoying. Fry his ###.

And he should pay for the sexual stuff too, f'n scumbag.

Sounds believable until I read this part....

What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?

Seems off to me to include this paragraph in an accusation.

Not really. When it follows this paragraph:

"But others are still scared, vulnerable, and struggling for the courage to tell the truth. The message that Hollywood sends matters for them."

You can see that it's more than an accusation. It's the looking the other way that allows it to happen, and continue.

There's a lot of craziness to this story, but I don't understand how someone can marry, and stay married to, their own adoptive father who also allegedly abused their sister and had a nasty breakup with their mother.

Do you happen to be a good friend of Woody's, or are you making that judgement on the presumption that the movies he makes tells one all you need to know about his character?

I'm just saying that there's never been a hint of it, but there HAS been plenty of hints that he's into young girls (though physically fully developed). Make of that what you will. No I have no more idea about the guy's private life than anyone else here does.
