Davis' Contract Voided

It's being reported that 2008 will be Browns LB Andra Davis' last year on his current deal as the last two year of his contract have been voided.

With Davis also taking a paycut, he will likely not be re-signed by the team. Davis isn't much of an IDP option anymore as the Browns are moving towards youth at the linebacker position.

Sounds like to me - with the way Leon Williams has played maybe he'll get see more shots this year and would be worth hanging on to for '09. I know there have been other rumors and talk on this subject but this is the first I've seen that 2 years of his contract have been voided (assuming this is correct.

Sorry seems like by: bcr8f beat me to the punch under every down linebackers thread.

Yeah posted this in the LB thread

The final two years on Browns ILB Andra Davis' contract have voided.

He'll be in a contract year and make $1.675 million in 2008. Willie McGinest also had his pay cut to $900,000 after not achieving certain bonus standards. The Cleveland Plain Dealer refers to both as "former starters." It looks like Leon Williams will be lining up next to D'Qwell Jackson more this year.

Owned both Djacks and Leon in IDP last year.. neither really got anything but solo tackles... but man did they rack up the tackles for me. With the experience under his belt im predicting Djacks to have a top 10 season.. leon is also going to have at least 80 solos.

I'm a fan of Leon

He did well in relief duty for me last season.

I know the Browns love him, and he plays solid in obvious passing situations (coverage or blitzing)

Radio report so no internet link (NFL on Sirius)

Cleveland is looking at C. Haggans.

Not sure how or where he would fit into all this

The media in these parts are speculating based on conversations with Browns personnel that they don't believe the free agent market for LB's was that much better than what they already had otherwise Andra would have been cut (McGinest was safe all along). They expect LB to be the #1 priority in the draft and based on what I've seen the class is deep this year. I'd expect our 4th and 5th rounders to either be two LB's or a LB and a CB, obviously it depends on what's available and if Savage is seeing his targets fly off the board you know he won't hesitate to move up to lock up at least one LB.

He was in for a visit yesterday, haven't read or heard anything since though. If brought in I think he'd be a band aid at bookend opposite Wimbley but we'd still be in pursuit for a long term solution. There's a reason the Squeelers drafted Woodley last year, they were looking for a replacement for Haggans as he's probably not worth whatever contract is thrown at him. He's ok, but certainly nothing special. If we throw something at him I just hope he'd be a cap friendly cut in a year or two, he's better than any other OLB on the roster I'll give him that but that's not saying much.

I like Leon as well. I think the key for him being productive is how he learns to adapt to the 3-4. He was in the 4-3 at my beloved U. I think he's played out of position a little too much which has limited his playing time. Once it clicks and he learns the position a little better, he can be a viable option. He is a playmaker though and could be a very nice player in this D, especially if the acquisition of Rogers and Williams on the D-Line works out like I pray it does. :goodposting:

:goodposting: I'm hoping we pass on Haggans. I would really prefer a Kalimba Edwards to give us a good edge rusher on the other side of Wimbley. I've always liked McGinest and what he brings from an experience standpoint and a great guy in the locker room, but we really need to help out our young corners with some steady pressure on the QB.Sorry for getting a little off topic guys. Our revamped line and it's potential has me kinda giddy. :goodposting:
