Andre Johnson, Has he finally arrived? (1 Viewer)

I was surprised to not see much discussion on him when I did a search. Right now, I think in my PPR league he will end this week #2 right behind Torry Holt (not very far behind) even with Holt's huge game last week.

He is currently on pace for:

125 receptions, 1576 yards and 8 TDs

While the receptions and yardage may seem high, unlike folks like Holt, Johnson has yet to have a huge game. People talk about WR inconsistency, but AJ this far has been ridiculously consistent. He has scored 15, 16, 16, 24, 25 and 26 points in his 6 weeks in my PPR league. His worst game so far is 9 receptions for 75 yards and no TDs. His only other non-100 yard game (4 out of 6 have been 100+) was 4 receptions for 56 yards and 1 TD.

I have kept him in my league since I drafted him as a rookie and he looks to be coming into his own this year and if Carr keeps playing halfway decently, he should be good for quite a few years.

If only I had gone with my gut of taking Holt (had him last year) in the 1st instead of CJ. :wall:

I have had him since his 1st game as a pro. Finally patience is paying off. I have been most worried about pass protection, figuring that Carr and Johnson would click with some time. Amazingly, they even lost their rookie (starting) left tackle early this year, and it has not mattered.

AJ has always had the tools...last year's nightmare was a combo of injury & just a general malaise about the Texans. I took him much earlier than most of my co-owners thought I should in a 12 team redraft this year (pick 4.12), but I love his ability, & I was willing to take a chance that Kubiak's version of the WCO would be a great fit for AJ. So far, so good... Other than avoiding all Raiders, AJ is about the only thing I was right about...

He had 11 catches for 152, that's a pretty huge game.

We have done this thread before. Yeah he's "arrived" esp when he's averaging close to 100 ypg

He is quietly have a great season.

Too bad he plays in Houston and nobody really hears about him, or for that matter really cares.

I've got him on one of my teams, and I simply start him every week with absolutely no problem whatsoever.

I've got him on all of my teams. He was good last year when he wasn't hurt, and clearly that kept him under the radar this year.

He's clearly the #1 option, he's got talent, and his QB is decent. The lack of TDs will hurt him from gaining a bigger national spotlight, and in non-PPR leagues, this hurts his value a bit, but if you don't think he's one of the top 5 WRs this season, you're not paying attention.

Yes, FINALLY. But unfortunately I'm not reaping the benefits of all the support I've given him over the years.. FF is all about timing :yucky:

He looks great - very happy with him on my keeper team at a cheap price!

Was he drafted after Charles Rogers or was that a different draft? Nice to see a top WR draft pick actually meet expectations!

I can't remember who went #1 probably some QB, but I am pretty sure Rogers was the #2 overall and AJ was the #3 overall. I drafted him in my keeper league as a rookie and to be honest, I have been happy with him every year (top 25 every year except last year). Even last year, he was decent especially in PPR leagues (like mine) once he got healthy.

#3 after Rogers and Carson Palmer in 2003.
Damn, I knew I should have said that! I knew it wasn't Harrington/Carr because obviously they had to be different years, and Palmer was the only one I could think of, but I was posting lazy. My bad.

Houston homer checking in and Andre is benefitting mightily from 2 things this season:

1. No more Dom Davis or other viable pass-catching RB to take his place. With no relief outlet in place, Carr has turned to Andre as his go to guy. Carr has forced some balls in that he shouldn't have but AJ's physical skills and size allow him to make some plays and come up with the ball. Yesterday's TD was a deep bomb to AJ into double coverage and somehow AJ caught the ball. It was unbelievable.

2. Kubiak has really turned Carr around. He's drilled into Carr to not throw the checkdown pass all the time which is the rut Carr fell into last year. Carr is getting better at progressing thru his reads and making throws to his WR's. The O'line isn't playing significantly better than last year, but Carr's pocket presence and his ability to get the ball out have greatly improved.

As long as these trends continue I see AJ's production (at least from a target standpoint) to continue to chug along nicely.
