Andrew McCutchen (1 Viewer)

In my points keeper league (h2h and total pts) I've brought this kid up through my minors. You essentially keep 9 major leaguers and 5 minor leaguers. This will be the 1st year Andrew needs to be kept as a major.

I'm in the running for total points again (won 2 years ago and 2nd last year) with a solid h2h record. You get to have 8 pitching starts in your lineup when the week starts...so you could have as few as 4 starters in your lineup each week or as many as 8 (if you start a double start you have to use them both).

My for sure 9 keepers include Braun, Cruz, Kinsler, Youkilis, Haren, Felix, Lee, Hamels (and Mccutchen).

But, I've been dangled a nice stash of players for Mccutch that could solidify my season and not hurt me too much in the future.

Suzuki (upgrades over Molina/Jaso)

Santana and DiceK (upgrades over Medlen and Duke/Kendrick...my other starters are Pettitte and Moyer)

Soria (upgrades over Qualls, assuming he's gonna lose his job at some point)

a minor leaguer (mine needs upgrades, and I could probably get Michael Taylor or Brad Lincoln...or Fernando Martinez)

There also could be other options...remove DiceK for Ian Stewart or BJ Upton possibly...or Posey for Suzuki. But I'm not sure about these.

What are your thoughts? Am I dealing a Granderson or Victorino type player or something much better? Crawford? Yearly 30/30...or just 20/20 or 20/30?

I think in his prime Cutch will be a regular .300 25 HR 40 SB guy. He's been the best player on the team since he arrived in Pittsburgh. I'd also factor in that the Pirates would like to make him their 3-hitter and his surrounding cast will eventually be much better than it has been the first two months. At some point soon I think this order is likely...giving McCutchen more protection in the order and many more RBI and run opportunities.

1- Tabata

2- Walker

3- McCutchen

4- G. Jones

5- Alvarez

6- Doumit

He's the real deal in terms of batting average and power as Frenchy Fuqua said. Those numbers are realistic. Don't know if he can swipe 40, though, unless it was his job hitting leadoff. McCutchen is everything Lastings Milledge is/was supposed to be---a versatile offensive force and ideal #3 hitter. I think he'll be better than Granderson since Granderson still has trouble hitting lefties.

Forget Doumit hitting 6th. He'll be gone to another team by the end of June, for what it's worth. What it's worth is too much for the Pirates for next season's salaries. Ideally, however, locking up McCutchen long-term now while he's on the way up would be wise. Don't expect it from the Bucs, though it would be shrewd in a fantasy keeper league.

Good point.
