I suppose I could put up the first five or ten picks. I know there's not going to be any changes there.

I was planning on posting it in stages anyway since when you throw the whole thing out there it seems to generate less discussion.

You're going to like the 2nd and 3rd rounders better than the 1st, methinks.Yes, I'm sure that gives it away.

First round looks good to me.

A request:

Do it like the NFL draft...give us a pick. We'll boo it or cheer it. Then the next pick. Then the trade or whatever.

:I'm bored and hate my job extra today:

All right. Since there seems to be sufficient interest (how do you like my LHUCKS-like attention hooooring? :lmao: )

1. Miami - Matt Ryan, QB - Boston College

This pick stinks. It's going to make a lot of people right and a lot of people wrong. Fortunately for the wrong ones, the right ones won't be able to crow about "told you so" because it really is a total guess as to who will be the pick here.

Does Chris Long make the most sense? Certainly. He's obviously talented, has a head for the game, the pedigree, and the desire, to be a cornerstone for a franchise. But there is a precedent for Parcells taking a QB this high (Bledsoe). And just like Quinn was sold short as to what he meant to the Notre Dame Flailing Irish, I think Ryan is to the BC Eagles. How many games would BC have won with an average QB?

If it were me, even though the franchise spent a 2nd on Beck, I'd like to up my chances of finding a QB to build around by drafting Ryan. Then I increase the chance that one or the other (or even both) guys pan out.

There's a chance that ANY guy taken with the #1 overall could fail. That's why I think the NFL needs to do something about the rookie salary structure - it's too punitive for the teams drafting high. But that's a discussion for another time. But I don't see QBs busting at a higher rate than any other position, so I say the Fins should swing for the fences here.

As a Jet's fan here in attendance at Dufresne City Hall...I applaud this pick by my arch-rival.

Ok. I'm fine with the pick. What I want to know is how long before he sniffs the field? Since they have Beck, does Parcells stick with recent tradition and sit the kid? Just curious.

Id put money Ryan is not the 1st pick in the draft
Well sure, if I have to put money on Ryan or The Field, it's going on the latter. But there's two reasons I wanted to start this way:1) I'm bored of mocks that start with Chris Long.2) I really think the Tunafins could go this direction. One reason I didn't want to start this way is that McShay made the same pick and I can't stand that guy.

I would think mid-season at the earliest. Josh McCown isn't a great QB, but would be good enough to warm the chair until Ryan can play without getting killed.

Construx and EBF should be the Mayock and Kiper in the booth.
I saw some roadkill on the way back from lunch. Let me go get it and put it on my head and I'll be Kiper. EBF should have no issue being Mayock. [lisp]

2. St. Louis Rams - Jake Long, OT - Michigan

Orlando Pace can't play forever, and if they don't help out the o-line, Bulger may follow him into retirement instead of playing piñata. They invested WAY too much into Bulger last season to allow that to happen. Plus, they have one of the games top backs in Jackson.

They drafted Alex Barron two years ago and has been developing at RT. With the addition of Long, the Rams have some flexibility as to which guy plays where. The buzz seems to be that Long is better suited to RT. I'm not sure about that. I think he'd be a run-blocking beast on the either side and will hold his own no matter where he plays.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Pace has played something like 8 total games the last two years.I know you like Gholston, but even though a lot of really nice d-linemen are available, I think the fans would burn the place down if the Rams drafted ANOTHER first round d-lineman.

Oh Andy.....Tough crowd.

Ryan is one of those picks that feels right and wrong all at once.

And you;re correct - no pick is obvious. I lean towards Long, but there are several ways Miami could go - their free agency moves (like the Jets) allow them to move in many directions which also makes them hell on wheels to predict...

You're close, Mr. Peterson

3. Atlanta Falcons- Sedrick Ellis, DT - U.S.C.

Ryan is off the board and they acquired Michael Turner in free agency, so there's no need for McFadden. At this point, questions would swirl about someone trading up for Run DMC, but it's still too expensive to do so.

Grady Jackson was released, leading to first rounder Jamaal Anderson and previous year's addition Jon Abraham to underperform. The addition of Ellis will pay big dividends as the league starts to copy the Giants' success blueprint. Concerns about Dorsey's leg injuries cause him to drop just like it did Alan Branch last year.

The Falcons see what drafting Okoye did for Mario Williams and try and copy the pattern for their 2007/2008 draft picks.

That's a good pick for them. Either one will do I guess. I'm suprised that Ellis's stock has gone up so quickly but he might be worth it.I know that Falcons were probably dissappointed that Ryan and Long went right in front of them. Either would have been a better pick for them than Ellis.

He was damn near unblockable at the Senior Bowl and measured really well at the combine.

I don't know enough about Ellis.

But as far as the pick of a DT goes...I can see this.

If the new head coach wants to have a power running game on offense, then I would imagine he would want to stop another team's running game.

.....plus they still may get a stud OT if they choose in the 2nd round. Cherilus may still be on the board for them.
