Anemic passing attack -- Tennessee (1 Viewer)

Tennessee has thrown just four touchdown passes so far this year, despite winning six games. There are only five teams in the modern era that have ever won more games than thrown touchdown passes.

Code:
tm year	td int	winbuf	1973 4 14 9gnb	1972 7 9 10tam	1995 5 20 7chi	1986	12 25 14gnb	1974 5 21 6
The Titans have also thrown 10 INTs, and have six more INTs than touchdowns. Obviously they're on pace for both double digit wins and a double digit deficit in passing touchdowns minus passing interceptions. Only four teams since the merger have pulled off that double double:
Code:
tm year	td	int win diffchi	1986	12	25	14	13oti	1980	15	28	11	13nwe	1978	15	25	11	10phi	1991	17	27	10	10

Passing attack, what passing attack?

The Titans are worse off than the Vick-leading Falcon era.

Don't get me wrong, the Titans passing game is woeful, but it's worth noting that they've had four passing TDs called back due to penalties in just the last two games.

I covered this game for rotoworld yesterday, and it was obvious to me that the Titans' wide receivers cannot get open. They just have a hard time gaining separation, and when they finally do, they're either running the wrong route or Young is throwing the ball into the ground.

The other problem is that the Titans never open up their offense until they absolutely have to. It's hard to be successful passing the ball when the only time you do it is on 3rd and long.

In the full game Kerry Collins played in this year, he passed for 280 yards. He found the receivers.

Yes, you are right. He was also playing against the Texans.Honestly, I think the problem is 75% WR and 25% VY. Both are to blame, but VY w/ good WR > Titans WR with a better passer.Peyton didn't look too hot without his quality WR, did he?By they way, VY's completion % is a full 10% higher than last year. About 51% vs 61%.

Surely you're not comparing a 38-36 shootout against the Texans to a normal Titans game, are you? Collins had 42 attempts in that game, which is more than Vince Young has ever thrown the ball in a game. Yesterday was Young's season high at 41 attempts, and he passed for 257 yards. Usually, Young gets 15-25 passing attempts a game. He's not going to rack up gaudy passing numbers.Maybe you misunderstood me. By no means am I making apologies for Vince Young's passing. He's not a good passer by any stretch, but pointing out that he's working with pedestrian WRs in a highly conservative offense isn't an excuse. It's just an observation.
