Annonymous exposes Steubenville Rape Case (1 Viewer)

Kind of an interesting follow-up to this story in Jezebel today (it was linked on Deadspin, I swear!).

In any case, it's very, very clear by now that the LocalLinks page perpetuated an awful lot of false and inflammatory information out there.

I don't have time to read the whole thing so cut to the chase: does this article say the girl was not sexually assaulted by these boys?

A quote from the article , which quotes a quote “she was raped deader than Trayvon Martin!”.

Not at all. There is no dispute, in any event, that two Steubenville football players digitally penetrated Jane Doe while she was passed out drunk. And there is no hand wringing about what happened to those two football players.

But if you followed the case at all, you know that a lot of people from the football program, the high school, the police department, and the prosecutor's office were accused of engaging in cover-ups. And a lot of other football players were erroneously accused of participating in a gang rape when that doesn't appear to have happened.

These clowns need to get out of their basements. Between this, the reddit Boston Bomber manhunt etc. the collateral damage is very real. We all love the idea of a vigilante bring justice to the oppressed - the problem is, this wannabe Supermen are not anywhere near as omniscient as the comic versions.

Update

Four more school employees charged in Steubenville rape case

A grand jury investigating the 2012 rape of a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, Ohio, has indicted four school employees, including the school superintendent, who faces felony charges, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Monday.

Steubenville City Schools Superintendent Michael McVey faces three felony counts: one charge of tampering with evidence and two counts of obstructing justice. He also is charged with making a false statement and obstructing official business, both misdemeanors, DeWine said.

Also indicted was elementary school principal Lynnett Gorman and wrestling coach Seth Fluharty, both of whom are charged with misdemeanor failure to report child abuse. Volunteer assistant Steubenville football coach Matt Bellardine was charged with four misdemeanors: allowing underage drinking, obstructing official business, making a false statement and contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child.

This brings to six the number of people the grand jury has indicted after two students were convicted of rape, DeWine said. A school technology director and his daughter were indicted in October.

Grand jury thought so

Good to see Dewine got a grand jury that could hand down some indictments. It would appear at first glance that there was some kind of organized effort to cover this up.

Dewine did have the money quote, "How can we hold the kids accountable if we don't hold the parents accountable?"

Even though I know this will never happen, it would be nice to see OHSAA drop the hammer on the football team. Playoff ban, ineligible for league title, something like that.

no offense, but, boo ####ing hoo. The rapists in Steubenville were tried as juvenilles. The hacker is 26. Had the kids been tried as adults, they would've faced up to life in prison. So don't complain about the sentences, complain that kids under 18 are tried as juvenilles.

What's so confusing. The adult is complaining that he is facing more time in jail than a juvenile. But at least the juveniles seem to understand that they broke the law.

The link was broken. All I could read was the title.

You mean the rapists that enticed an underage girl to party (that could not consent), then drugged her, then raped her multiple times and left in the cold unconscious?

You are a sick individual.

They should've been tried as adults imo. But they weren't. Only reason this guy is facing more time is because he's an adult.

A volunteer football coach was found guilty on Tuesday of lying to authorities and allowing underage drinking in connection with the rape of a teenage girl at a party in August 2012 that drew national attention to an Ohio town.

Matthew Belardine, 26, pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to 10 days in jail by visiting Judge Patricia Cosgrove in the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

By pleading no contest, Belardine did not admit guilt but agreed to the facts presented in the case, leaving it up to the judge to decide whether he was guilty or not.

Belardine's jail sentence was the first stemming from indictments brought by a grand jury called to determine whether adults in Steubenville, Ohio, had covered up the rape of a girl at a party to protect its high school football program.

Yeah, those 10 days in jail are really going to screw up his weekend plans.

In all fairness, it could be TWO weekends.

That's true, but he might get time off for good behavior.
