Annual Parade of Student Names (1 Viewer)

The Phantom Menace came out in 1999 so RudyStein still has to wait about 3-4 years to start running into kids with names like Anakin Walker Fuentes.

Abigailh (the "h" is silent)
:lmao: WHY?
Because if you pronounced it, it would be silly.
 Maybe the "h" is there so that when she's introducing herself to a guy, she can lean over him, and whisper breathlessly in his ear, "Hello, my name is Abigailhhhhhhhhhhhh. Let's go to my place." I just don't get why anyone would think, hey, what this name needs is some H. Not a particularly feminine letter.

The parents of these kids should be forced to change their names to Dypp####t or MoorRonn or something similar.

Teacher friend recalls a student a few years back named Female (fee-MAL-eee). No word on whether or not the parents just liked the word when filling out the birth certificate.

My girlfriend is a teacher and in one of her classes had a girl with the first name Intelligenz.

It's on her birth certificate like that.

Caleb is becoming popular for some odd reason.
I've had at least one Caleb (out of 170-180 students) every year for the last 4 or 5 years.
Big Mennonite population out there?
Not really. A lot of Nazarenes though.
Plenty of Basques from what i understand as well
Tons but with them it is the last names:Iturriria, Echeverria, Ermigarat, Errassarett, Etcheverry, Goyeneche, Barreneche, Bordagaray...

If you are expecting a child and want to give them a unique name may I suggest Joseph, Robert, Mary or Susan?

These names seem to be on the edge nowadays.

Serious question - did our grandparents sit around saying, "If you are expecting a child and want to give them a unique name may I suggest Herbert, Fred, Betty or Mabel?"

Nope. Usually you were given the name of a relative. The idea of dreaming up new names and spellings seems to be something that became popular about 20 years ago.

Some times I wonder if names with goofy spellings are the result of a parent being too ignorant to spell it correctly. For example, "Antawn Jamison". :goodposting:

Not really. I'm 37 and no one in my family has my name. My father is 70, and no one has his. My grandfather would be in his 90s and no one has is, either.

Okay. My mother's side (Italian), is loaded with Jim/James, Anthony/Tony, Michael/Mike, Thersea and Marie. My father's side (Irish) has quite a few William/Bill, Daniel/Dan, Margaret/Maggie.Not an Antwaan in the bunch.

Catholic?

I want to cash in on this trend. I want to market sets of dice which are imprinted with prefixes and suffixes. Prospective parents could roll however many die they want and name their babies based on the result.

Mama-to-be: "Yo, Tayshawn, whatchoo roll?"

Daddy-to-be: "I gots a "Shon", a "tav" and a "ius". SHONTAVIUS!!!

I have student named Iryna. Her mother is a Russian mail-order bride...no shtick. The first day of school she tells me she doesn't want to be called Iryna. She wants to be called Ira. :goodposting:

She went from having a name like a hot Bond girl to the name of an 83 year old Jewish man.
