Poor kid is going to be picked on all the time at school...by bears.

It's not unusual to be afraid of a bear. Luckily for him it wasn't "Afraid of Beaver".

I once issued a bank statement for a "Donald and Donna Donaldson". Who in their right mind with a last name of "Donaldson" would name their kid "Donald"? Marrying into it, sure. You're in love. Since this got bumped, I had to add that when having a "future baby name" discussion with the girlfriend, we settled on the classic "you name a boy, I name a girl" approach. I promptly said after agreeing that the forerunner for my name choice was "Fredginald." She went stark white and said, "Are you SERIOUS?" I've been playing it DEAD serious ever since. She is not amused, but I have to bite my lip every time to keep from I call it the mullet of names, although it's kind of more business in the back (-ginald) and party in the front (Fred), but still...

This year's gripe isn't about weird names but goofy spellings and pronounciations.

Parents are just going out of their way to screw with people (and their kids).

"Mikela" = MEE-kela

"Anissa" = Uh-niece-uh

"Kari" = "Car-E"

Outstanding job, folks. For the rest of your kid's life they are going to have to tell just about every person they meet how to spell or pronounce their name.

So in addition to teachers, delivery room nurses have interesting name stories. When we had our son 2 months ago, one of the nurses was the wife of one of my wife's co-workers. Our son was in special care for 10 days or so, so we got pretty close and comfortable with the nurses, particuarly this one.

The name topic came up because another baby born around the same time was named "Astrid," and I commented on how every time I heard that name, I laughed because I used to think of the old episode of the office where Michael Scott pronounced Jan's baby's name of Astrid as "A## Turd."

Anyway, the nurse said that they've had two highlights over the years:

One set of twins was named Rage and Chaos.

Another daughter, born to a relatively affluent couple with good jobs, etc...named their daughter Theoneandonly...
