The way they worded that question, I would fall in that 50%. "Likely" doesn't mean "certainly". "Likely" means >50%, or, 'more probable than not'. If you think it's less realistic then not, then you go with "not likely", which means improbable but still possible.Given the options: "Very Likely, Somewhat Likely, Not Likely, Don't Know" I would personally select "Somewhat likely." I do not find it implausible that someone would do such a thing if they stand to heavily benefit financially. "Not Likely" feels like the answer I'm to give if I think its impossible, which I don't, so that leaves me with the highly scientific "Somewhat likely."
So what does "Somewhat likely" mean? You've just thrown out the possibility of the middle option. I am against gun control. But I'm willing to accept that I'm in the minority on that (especially among my own party), and the best I can hope for is to come to a reasonable compromise. I'm fine with the assault weapon ban because it affects only a small percentage of people, but I'm against the overall idea of it. It reminds me of the TSA, a showy placard to imitate safety.I would rather we focused our efforts on improved public healthcare, specifically mental healthcare, for all families and specifically those that have obviously troubled children.Wouldn't blame them. #### these people. Some people are saying his daughter isn't dead.Let me preface this by saying that I can not even imagine what any parent who lost a child must be going through, its unfathomable to me. But i was little surprised that the father of little Emily Parker gave a press conference about his daughter. It was very emotional and heart wrenching, but I just couldnt understand how that came to be? Was the media contacting the families of the children to get a statement from one of them? Why would a grieving father have to tell the world how much his daughter meant to him, to me it seemed like the media was exploiting his tragedy

You're not. There will be major issues in the Midwest and southeast. There is a rapidly growing contingent of law enforcement who simply will walk off the job rather than enforce the law. Several of my friends who are SWAT MPD and county sheriffs deputies have told me that there is a very one sided stance against this in this cities forces. This will likely simply result in a few knee jerk bans (like NY) but I don't think anyone will be stupid enough to actually pass this on a national level. Connecticut State Police on Friday released thousands of pages of documents from the investigation into last year's massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Here are some highlights of the documents, which supplement a summary report that was released earlier:
— Gunman Adam Lanza's mother, Nancy, told a friend two weeks before the massacre that her son was becoming increasingly despondent and had was put "over the edge" when their house lost power during Hurricane Sandy.
— Another friend told investigators Nancy Lanza texted him a few days before the shooting to say that Adam had bumped his head and they were "dealing with blood."
— A nurse said that she interviewed gunman Adam Lanza four times in 2006 and 2007 and that he had been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder and was "emotionally paralyzed," changing his socks 20 times a day.
— The advanced-practice nurse prescribed an antidepressant/anti-anxiety medication, but mother Nancy Lanza stopped giving it to him after he was unable to raise his arm, which she believed a side effect. The nurse said Adam's mother failed to schedule follow-up visits.
— A former teacher said Adam Lanza's parents were not "up front" with teachers about his mental abilities. The teacher recalled Lanza responding to a creative writing assignment by "obsessing about battles, destruction and war." The teacher called the level of violence "disturbing."
— A man who dated Nancy Lanza in 2011 said she told him in an email that she had scheduled a trip to London the week of the shooting but canceled at the last minute because of "a couple last minute problems on the home front."
— Police officers found what appeared to be about 15 bodies, mostly children, piled in a bathroom at Sandy Hook. Police quickly carried them out, looking for signs of life, but there were no survivors among the group.
— Police were cautious about interviewing the surviving children. Interviews were done only if the children or their parents requested them. If the child didn't want to talk, the interview was ended immediately. After the interview, the children were given a copy of the children's book "A Terrible Thing Happened" to help them process what they had seen.
— Teachers told investigators they heard janitor Rick Thorne confront Adam Lanza and try to get him to leave the school. One teacher, who was hiding in a closet in the math lab, heard Thorne yell, "Put the gun down!" Thorne was not killed.

- Claimed he wished his son had never been born
- Believes that his son was an undiagnosed schizophrenic or psychopath
- Outlined Lanza's troubled childhood and how he was never normal - calling his own son a 'weird little kid'
- Said that his son was obsessed with World War II and started to withdraw when he hit puberty

So you're in favor of cruel and unusual punishment and/or the death penalty for people that suffer from mental illness? Cool.A demented Sandy Hook “truther” was arrested Friday in Virginia after he stole signs from playgrounds in New Jersey and Connecticut that were dedicated to tiny victims of the Newtown school massacre, police say.
So they catch the Sandy Hook shooter alive hypothetically, I guess in your world we take this deranged lunatic who committed one of the most heinous crimes of all time, & maybe we try to rehabilitate him and get him back on track? Cool.http://m.nydailynews.com/news/crime/sandy-hook-truther-caught-virginia-stolen-playground-signs-police-article-1.1811925

You're not very bright.I just assume daily mass school shootings are a normal part of American life now.
Its not mental illness. The Sandy Hook "Truthers" are an extreme offshoot of NRA supporters. If you tell people for years that Obama is going to seize all of your guns, then this sort of thing becomes almost inevitable.Officer Pete Malloy said:fantasycurse42 said:http://m.nydailynews.com/news/crime/sandy-hook-truther-caught-virginia-stolen-playground-signs-police-article-1.1811925

There are reports of an active shooter at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Oregon. Police have confirmed several injuries.
We have always had guns in this country. I am much more interested in the why there seems to be such an increase in these type of situations. Is it okay to say that we have a problem in this country yet?

Agree. Sure didn't have to think about getting shot at school a couple decades ago. I feel sorry for kids now days. It is okay to say we have a problem, but why don't we get to the actual problem. There is a huge mental illness issue and almost all of these cases seem to center around kids/adults that people around them "knew" they were capable of this and had access to guns, knives, explosives, whatever. Is it okay to say that we have a problem in this country yet?

This won't solve anything unfortunately IMO - If a student wants to carry this out, they simply walk right through shooting. All school need metal detectors and security guards now. Not just those in bad areas.
