Antonio Bryant (1 Viewer)

I picked up Bryant late in all three of my leagues this year. I started him over DJax last week, and was very frustrated until late in the game when he put up some good numbers. I realize he's in a pretty good situation, with a young QB, being #1 WR on his team, and playing from behind a lot. He's going to get some looks, which equals opportunity.

That being said, I'm having a really hard time projecting him for solid numbers this year. It's probably more on A. Smith than Bryant, it just don't trust him. I'm happy to have him on my roster, but many websites have him ranked ahead of DJax, Mason, and other guys who seem more reliable options. I don't want to miss the bus on Bryant, but in the same notion don't want to fall into the overhyped pitfall and start him over proven guys.

What are your thoughts on what he can do, week in and week out, and maybe some projections for this year. Anyone else besides me who has him on their roster but is just afraid to put him in the lineup on a regular basis?

All offseason, I've struggled to understand how anyone can project Bryant under 1,000 yards.

Last year, in an ultra conservative offense and with Dilfer and Frye throwing the ball, he still managed 69 catches, just over 1,000 yards, and 4 TDs.

This year, by all accounts he's matured a great deal and become a team leader. He's Smith's favorite target in the passing game by far if the first game and the preseason are any indication. And while the 49ers want to run the ball more than 50% of the time, that still leaves plenty of opportunities for him to make plays on a team that will likely be forced to pass a lot playing catch up.

He's a top 20 WR to me, and I fully expect his numbers to improve across the board this year. Week in and week out, he'll still have some duds like most receivers do.

Did anyone actually get a chance to see the Niners game last week? How did Smith look throwing the ball? Last year he was just awful. Bryant didn't, IIRC, have a ton of targets compared to his teammates...He only saw the ball thrown his way three times in the first half, and he failed to make a catch.

I watched the game (through a drunken haze) and Smith appeared to be poised and comfortable with the offense. He made some nice throws downfield, particularly to Bryant.

I drafted him late in all leagues as well and expect good numbers. Probably 70 catches, 1100 yds, and anywhere from 4-10 TDs.

I didn't see the whole game, but what I did see was enough to realize that Alex Smith seems to be improved. His footwork was better and his reads/checkdowns were much quicker and more decisive. I think the whole key to A. Bryant's production, however, is the play of Gore and V. Davis. As long as Gore and Davis produce at a solid level - it will be harder for defenses to rotate a saftey over to Bryant's side and Bryant should be very productive.

I guess we'll find out more this weekend cuz left guard Larry Allen and left tackle Jonas Jennings are not likely to play this weeeknd. If the 49ers show they can still move the ball with a weakend O-Line and Gore can keep the Rams honest - then I think Bryant could put up top 10 - 15 numbers for a WR.

Wow, that really narrows it down.Did Bryant draw any double teams?

I'm hoping he is a solid #3 behind Holt and Driver. Got him for $2 in an auction draft.

I trust in FBG.

I would have to start him over DJax or Driver. Having a hard time doing so. Last week was easy because DJax was suppose to be limited. But now that he's back, I feel like he's a more proven WR, in a more explosive offense with a better QB.

i listened breifly to the Game Broadcast by the AZ announcers, the color man was great

after a play where Bryant dropped a catchable ball, the color man said this:

"you know what Bryant is going to do now?"

other guy "what?"

"the same thing he did in cleveland, the same thing he did in dallas, and the same thing he did in college at Pittsburg, yell at the quarterback"

i also most crashed my car i was laughing so hard

For what it is worth I have him in all 3 of my leagues, I was able to get him late in all of them. I did start him in one last week with TJ inactive (3 WR league) but for the most part he is my bye week fill in guy. I expect 1000 and 4 to 6 TD's

Agree, and the success of Davis and Gore will likely give Smith more time to look downfield for Bryant.

That's the deal. He'll be consistent with yards and receptions, but the TDs are a mystery. I could see Gore or Davis (or both) being a redzone monster, leaving scraps for everyone else. I could also see Bryant going for jump balls or hooking up with Smith on some bombs. There's really no way to tell what his TD numbers will be, but his floor is probably 4 and his ceiling 10, imo.Not sure about double teams.

Don't forget, he also had a 52yd TD called back, last week, because of holding. IMO he's the real deal and Smith looks for him as the home run, deep threat. He will be starting for me until he proves me wrong.

Norv Turner is looking for his "Irvan" and thinks Bryant is it. Bryant is Smiths main target, they hooked up all preseason and all that was being reported was how great there chemistry was. I think Smith's numbers will be:

72 receptions 1,100 yards, and 7 TD's

Im starting him over Galloway this weekend, anyone else starting him? If so over who? If you are not starting him, who are your starting WR's this week?

My wr's are Ward, R. Moss :( , R. Williams and Bryant. Oakland scares me against Baltimore, so I am thinking of starting Bryant over Randy Moss.

Have to choose between Bryant and L. Coles this week. Leaning towards Coles but haven't decided.

The more Gore and Vernon Davis show, the better for Bryant. The first 3 quarters of the SF/AZ game went just like the 3rd preseason game versus the Cowboys. Dallas doubled Bryant the whole time with Anthony Henry playing super tight on him because he had help over the back. Bryant couldn't get any separation and did nothing. Arizona had to stop doubling Bryant by the 4th though because Gore was destroying them and Davis was getting open (even if dropping passes) too frequently. If Gore keeps running like a mad man and Vernon Davis can keep challenging the seams, there is no way any team will be able to double Bryant and he can beat almost any one on one coverage.

I got him for free in a 12 team auction draft! (Ran out of money but still had to fill out my roster).I got him in all 4 of my leagues very late. Bryant in '06 = VALUE!

He's my WR2 in my redraft league. Starting every week he's healthy. He's my WR2/3 in my dynasty league.. Burress is my #1 and Andre Johnson is pretty much my WR #2.I'll be starting Chester Taylor, Deshaun Foster, Plaxico Burress, Andre Johnson, and probably Thomas Jones as my flex. I'll be keeping Lamont Jordan, Kevan Barlow (who I also expect to play well), and Muhammad on the bench, but I'm really tempted to figure out which of those 5 to bench to put Bryant in.

I like Bryant also (and own him).

But at the moment, I am starting Holt, Burress, and Evans over him in Week 2.

I watched most of the game last week and the kid looked great. He was getting open, has above average hands, and seems to be like one of those guys who raises his level of play when things are going well (ala Moss, TO, Roy Williams).

In the league I own him, I am starting him (along with Bennett, Boldin, and Harrison) over L. Coles and Colston. I am tempted to put in Coles, but if I did so I think I'd bench Bennett instead of Bryant.

I have...

Roy Williams

Horn

Evans

M. jones

Bryant

Thinking of going...

Roy

Evans

Bryant

I know Horn is going against GB, but I think they will run, run then run some more, and Matt is playing the Steelers.... :loco:

:goodposting: I have been on the Bryant Bandwagon since he joined the 49'ers and we started hearing things like these:
June 17th: Offensive coordinator Norv Turner said, "The person who has helped quarterback Alex Smith more than anybody is Antonio Bryant, just by being a professional and showing the young guys."
August 1st: "I've never played with a guy like him,'' (Alex) Smith said between practices Monday. ``I've always played with receivers that if they're winning by half a step, I've got half-a-step's room to throw the ball in there. With him, you've kind of got some room for error. He's going to make you look good.''
And so forth. Here's the whole blogger log of news clips on BryantThe guy has grown up, and gained the trust of his QB and his current offensive coordinator. He should have a very solid season. I have him projected for 1100-1200 yards, 7-8 TDs on my final pre-season set of projections - I may have set the TD ceiling a little low, time will tell.

I've bought into him in a big way: I have him in all three of my leagues. I'll probably start him over Evans in one league and Heap (start 3 WR, no-TE league) in another.

Kind of have a similar dilema. I have Bryant and Gore, and am considering trying to sell high on one of them. The greed in me wants to keep them both, but the the smart thing would be to trade one of them while I can get great value.

I think I am going to try and trade one of them, or both after week 5. They play PHI, KC, Oak, SD(week 5) and then a BYE. When they get back from the bye, they have 4 tough games.

Trade Gore, his history of injury would make this a no brainer in my book...

There was a good thread on Bryant before the season started.

Here's the link. Some nice discussion.

Antonio Bryant Thread

I also am enjoying reading some of my excerpts from that thread.

Im on the bandwagon for this guy this year. Anyone want to join? And, I do think HE has the talent to be a pro bowl reciever. His situation is another story. But if Smith progresses like its looking he is, I say he'll be a solid number 2 receiver in deep leagues for at minimum. I think he may be this years chris chambers. yay.
Im foolishly going to predict right now, for my own amusement and hopes, that Bryant puts up 1200 and 10 this year, and either the same or better for at least the next 5 years. (I really like what Alex Smith has to offer. He's 22 years old. He looked lost his rookie year, but he was only 21.) In 2 years Im predicting they both make the pro bowl.

If none if this happens, this thread will get lost anyway.

If this does happen, im gonna post a link to this thread for sure.

It all sounds nice right? :crossing fingers:
Well, things are looking good so far. (Yes after one game, I know, I know)

He looked great all preseason, got tons of hype in camp, and started out the season nicely. Given his track record of production on awful teams, I think we can expect a nice season. I put him somewhere in the WR15-20 range. I just benched him for Hines Ward, but it wasn't exactly a no-brainer. Bryant is the clear #1 WR on the Niners and I fully expect career best numbers in receptions and receiving yards.

your rankings usually read like a polar opposite of mine, but Bryant is the one guy you turned me around on. here's to continued Bryant success :banned:

I am tempted to start him this week in a 3WR start over Randy Moss yes Randy Moss. My other potential starters are M. Jones vs. Pitt Burress vs. Philly and Jennings vs. NO. I just don't see Randy having a good day against Baltimore and Jennings could have a good game but you never know with Farve. The steelers will be tough against the run but as long as Leftwich reads the defense he should post respectable numbers against them. Aaron and the Raiders who knows with them against Baltimore.

So far so good, I like seeing what I hoped for coming true (for now). I got him cheap in almost every league I'm in, which is always nice.He does need to be downgraded a little bit untill his o-line is back at full strength I think tho

sitting on Rod Smith, Moulds and Toomer as my 3 receivers. guh. i know.

Bryant is on the wire. do i grab him and waive Toomer?

day late and a dollar short

he was claimed at 1:50 AM this morning. must be my league-mates are reading the forum. :FINGER:

good news is that the guy who grabbed Bryant, dumped Michael Clayton.

he's on waivers til Sunday though. and i'm #11 on the waiver order. meaning i probably don't get him.

all the decent starting RB's and backups are gone.

top WR's are Isaac Bruce, Michael Jenkins, Marques Colston, Eric Parker, Josh Reed.

12-team league. i have bench space for 3 players.

i picked up Colston instead. he'll sit on my bench until he sells me a little more.. or i'll waive him when i need a TE to fill in for Shockey's bye week.

I've got nothing. I have him in one league and he's my bye week filler. I think he's solid for that role on my FF team. It's only week 1. If he does well into week 4 or 5 maybe I rethink that but nothing changed in one week for me.FWIW If websites have him ranked esp high, usually means great trade bait. Bryan Gilmore finally seems to have found a team that likes him. Makes me shake my head in disbelief but Nolan's had some real positive things to say about him. Last year, when healthy, Battle looked like a polished vet not some inexperienced former KR playing WR. How many looks will Bryant get when Battle is 100% healthy? Eric Johnson, some here think he'll be used more and Nolan will be finding ways to get him involved. By me waiting a few weeks, I get to see how this shakes out. I think that's the spot to be.
