As uncertain as his projection will be the rest of this season, I'd say you wouldn't want to pay much, and you'd want him behind some definite production..
I own him in one league, and I wouldn't trade him for what I'd be willing to part with for him in my other leagues.

There is no way anybody who held him this long is going to let you buy low. The time to sell was week 2.
That being said, I owned Gates at the beginning of the season and when watching the week one game, I was alarmed at how fat he looked. I mean, he looked like a roly poly Craig 'Ironhead' Heyward out there. Even if his foot problems heal, he is not going to be any better than an average TE.

I have this girl, i mean guy and if any one offers me anything i'll take it. Kicker, defense, anything and i'm in. First off he will be "game time" decision this week. Then he'll be a scratch at last minute or be in for 1 or 2 plays and tweek his toe nail. Then he'll ponder seeing a specialist for the 500th time.

Who will you have to cut in order to bring in a 2 for 1? That must be factored into this trade.. Outside of that, looks like a good deal..

Well, the MN D is a no brainer this week. Followed by T. Young, J. Ford, or L. Moore.I'm basically giving up on this week and headed to 3-4 with this trade with no TE and Maclin on bye. But this would be more of a 2nd half trade.

As a Gates owner, I'd probably be willing to sell pretty low still. I just don't trust him.
If you believe Gates is a top 3 or even top 5 TE from now thru the end of the season, then I think he is still a buy low candidate for you, as I think you can get him cheaper than any other top TE. If he returns to his normal form, you could absolutely "buy low" right now.
But with him due back soon (allegedly), you aren't going to get him for nothing either.
