Any mechanics here? (1 Viewer)

Car started making a noise yesterday. Need to rake it into the shop tomorrow, but I was hoping to maybe get an idea of what it could be, or eliminate things, in case the mechanic I see tries to get over on me. I know a good amount about cars, so I should be able to explain the symptoms fairly clearly.

What are the noises? Where do they come from on the car? Does accelerating or braking cause them?

So I was driving down the freeway amp didn’t my car started sounding louder, for lack of a better term, like a deep hollow sound. I immediately pulled off the freeway and parked. Now as the car is idling, it sounds normal. There are no misfires no rod knock, no clicking, not even a rough idle. I rev the engine a little, nothing. I start heading home because I DID hear something. It’s about a 30 mile drive. I am taking surface streets as much as I can. I stop every so oftempn to listen. The loud sound is getting worse, but not a lot. By the time I get home it is now noticeable when idling, but just barely.

Other details:

No loss of power. Even at 65 mph.

No check engine light.

Car temperature was normal, so no overheating.

No smoke of any kind.

i am hoping it isn’t something too expensive. I’m pretty sure it isn’t a blown head gasket or a bad cylinder as there was no power loss and no over-heating, but I that’s about the extent of my knowledge.

Loud sound? As in engine noise louder? Metal sound?

Can you isolate where the sound is coming from?

Sounds like exhaust leak
