Any opinions on Miami's new starting ss, Yeremiah Bell? (1 Viewer)

Apparently, he will replace Traveres Tillman:

Tillman had been averaging 3.6 solos and 2.3 assists per game, plus two passes defensed and one stuff for the season. Not too hot. Apparently, he had struggled in coverage, while Bell did pretty well in limited snaps (nickle and dime situations). In fact, Bell has only just under half of Tillman's tackles, plus five passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a sack. Granted, he might be more likely to have passes defensed since he's in only on passing downs, but that still looks good.

I'm thinking of taking a chance on him. Anyone know more about him?

(apologies if there was another thread on him--I looked but couldn't find one)

Don't know anything about him, but will be picking him up. According to his nfl.com player page, he started in weeks 6 and 7. He had never started a game before.

Bell is an average player and, although he's probably better than Tillman, the fact that he's been unable to crack the lineup until now is telling. He may be worth picking up as roster depth, but is unlikely to make a big IDP splash.

Add to the fact that the SS position in Miami has never held good fantasy value.

This is true. Although I wouldn't discount them altogether. Lance Schulters had a decent season recently and this could be a Tennessee like situation for 2007. If they get a talented player in there (and it doesn't appear that Jason Allen will be that guy right now) you might see a somewhat unexpected Chris Hope like explosion.

Thanks, all. I snagged him and will hang on to him to see what he does. He'll probably be of more use to me than Michael Lewis has been!
