Some friends from my hometown want me to join in their head to head weekly league(Ten teams). I like roto more, but Im going to get in anyway. Not sure how to prep for this draft. Here's the scoring:

Scoring for Batting Categories

1B - Singles 1 point

2B - Doubles 2 points

3B - Triples 3 points

BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point

HR - Home Runs 4 points

R - Runs 1 point

RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point

SB - Stolen Bases 2 points

Scoring for Pitching Categories

BB - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -0.5 points

CG - Complete Games 5 points

ER - Earned Runs -1 point

HA - Hits Allowed -0.5 points

INN - Innings 2 points

K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point

S - Saves 10 points

W - Wins 10 points

Starting Lineup: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, MI, CI, 5 OF, 2U, 10P(SP or RP)

Any ideas? Stay away from SP? Draft RP earlier? Look at more speed guys? HR hitters?

Easier to prep for a points draft

Find or make a set of projections you like and add up the points

Category scarcity obv less important here

One of my two money leagues is almost exact to this. The pitching in mine doesn't have all the negatives and the Wins/Saves are worth less.

As TU mentioned, project out all players and compute their points based on your scoring system. Pretty easy to do in Excel. You can even implement a simple "VBD" cheat list by creating baselines (last starter). This has helped me in the past, especially when deciding between players at different positions.

Power hitters should be king in this league. Throw your point system into projections and you should notice some trends.

I started playing fantasy baseball in points leagues with somewhat similar scoring and one thing I found was that a large gap tended to form between elite SP and the rest. Pedro, Unit, Schilling, etc. were even more valuable than the elite hitters, and it seemd like every league champion had one of those guys on the roster.

Not sure if that will apply to you or not. As others said, just calculate out the points and see how things look.

This draft starts in a hour. I got the 5th pick. Looking at Sizemore and Cabrera with my 1st pick assuming the big 4 are taken. I prefer Cabrera, but 1B is deep, especially with only 10 teams. Decisions, decisions....
