Anybody been to Juarez Mexico lately? (1 Viewer)

Potential opportunity that could have me traveling there quite a bit (no not drug mule)

My impression of it is not good, probably similar to how people think of Detroit or Bakersfield

So curious if it really is a hellhole that will get me kidnapped, raped and murdered in some order, or "not that bad"

Feel free to use Toluca or Queretaro as a reference

Went to El Paso a couple of years ago for work. I like traveling and can always find something OK about a place.Hands down the worst big city I have ever been to. Didn't venture over to Juarez. Good luck!

El Paso is like Tucson.. really nice or complete crap.

Lived there for 4 years, somehow enjoyed it despite moving there from Hawaii.. Juarez used to be awesome as a teenager.

I used to go pretty often. I would not spend any time in Juarez now. It does seem to be getting better. You hardly hear of any dismembered bodies in a suitcase or heads spiked on a bridge or birthday parties being shot up anymore. I could see possibly crossing the border in Juarez during the day to drive somewhere, but I'd still be very wary. I wouldn't be surprised if something happens during the Pope's visit.

$10 Drink til you Drown Thursday's were a beautiful #### show back in the day.

I haven't been to Juarez in over 10 years but have friends who cross on a regular basis and say it is fine to go now as long as you are smart about it. If you are going for work then you will be interacting with civilized people in safe areas. Just don't get blackout drunk and stumble around the barrio wearing your Trump hat.

Just heard on the radio the Pope is going to be in J-town on Feb 17th. I am considering crossing the bridge to see him along with 450,000 of my closest amigos.

Interesting article on the security differences between El Paso and Juarez.

Has anyone gone to see a Pope before? Any tips?

Been to El Paso. Friend lives there and works in V.A. hospital and volunteers with vets near Fort Bliss.

Highly recommend State Line restaurant. Top of the line brisket and ribs.

Standing on the UTEP campus I remember looking across the Rio Grande (more like Rio Ditch with no water in it) thinking Juarez looks scary. Sheet metal shanty houses on the hill just across from the college. Buddy tells me he goes over all the time, but he's an old vet that I don't think anyone would bother for any reason. Goes over to drink and get cheap medical services. Cheap dental is no joke.

If you get in a pinch, just tell them you are Miguel Trevino Morales, leader of Los Zetas/Cartel del Norte, you went underground and had plastic surgery to change your appearance, and the dude that was captured and is in prison is an impostor (hilarity ensues - the cartel types have a wacky, nutty, zany sense of humor).
