I'm not even sure if we'll head into Charlottesville itself or spend our extra day just doing some scenic driving in the mountains. I am really looking to check out Asheville after hearing so many good things. We're staying at The Inn at Biltmore Estate while there. Have fun on your trip!I haven't been personally, but a buddy went recently for a conference and he enjoyed it.
Jamny - let me know if you need recommendations for either Charlottesville (where I have friends and family and visit often), or Asheville (where I'll be going in 10 days!).
If you really want some good scenery, depending if it's out of your way - hit up the Skyline Drive, which then becomes the Blue Ridge Parkway. The family and I recently took it from rt 211 down to interstate 64 a few months back and loved it.I'm not even sure if we'll head into Charlottesville itself or spend our extra day just doing some scenic driving in the mountains. Yeah, Skyline Drive and BRP is the reason we made a stop where we did. We're very excited about Asheville. We'll be visited the Biltmore, but not saying there. We're staying in town very close to quite a few breweries that we'll be hitting up.
I'll let you know the breweries to hit up. On our list is New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, Wicked Weed, Funkatorium, and Green Man.Yeah, Skyline Drive and BRP is the reason we made a stop where we did. Didn't want to rush through it.
We debated staying in town but since we'll be there for like 4 days we wanted a place with a pool to relax by. The hotel has a shuttle into town or we'll cab it in to enjoy the breweries and bars.
Nemacolin was great this past weekend. ThanksSeeing the VA confirmation, a place that I'd recommend in driving distance is Nemacolin in PA. Good resort with lots of activities there and in the area (it is pretty close to Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater).
Closer to The Homestead, I like the Inn at Willow Grove, but it's more of a romantic getaway than a place for families. But you could make it a central point for seeing sites in the Charlottesville area.
How was Asheville?I haven't been personally, but a buddy went recently for a conference and he enjoyed it.

I haven't been there, but I've heard people rave about the food/views/beer (I've had some of their beer - very good) here: Blue Mountain BreweryHow was Asheville?
Doing some research and it looks like Charlottesville is a must stop for a meal or two. Looks like a great walking area for restaurants. The plan is to hit Monticello in the morning, drive up most of Skyline and get back to Charlottesville for dinner. Any recs for dinner there?
We usually look for casual spots to eat like that but there doesn't seem to be a location for them in Charlottesville.I haven't been there, but I've heard people rave about the food/views/beer (I've had some of their beer - very good) here: Blue Mountain Brewery
You may be looking for something fancier, though.
Oh, you wanted something within walking distance. Sorry about that. This place is only about a 10 minute drive, thoughWe usually look for casual spots to eat like that but there doesn't seem to be a location for them in Charlottesville.
Yeah, I'm looking for something along that stretch in the city. I'm sure it won't be a problem though. Looks like tons of options.Oh, you wanted something within walking distance. Sorry about that. This place is only about a 10 minute drive, though
Asheville was amazing. Hit up 18 breweries I believe - and some nice family stuff with hiking and whatnot.jamny said:How was Asheville?
