i'm asking this now b/c it seems like this is the perfect time to acquire him.

he's not putting eye-popping numbers, so it's possible his owner is viewing him as nothing more than a passable option.

however, he's striking out less, walking more, hitting for some power, in a great lineup, and his OPS is more in line with his '06 callup numbers (which got the breakout calls started).

it seems to me that 20 HRs is very possible. throw in 10-15 SBs and a solid BA and you've got a pretty damned good SS.

not saying i'd go trading someone like tulo for him, but i wouldn't be shocked if he ended up being a top 7-8 SS this year (or had better overall numbers than tulo).

i'm not a fan of the typical buy-low. i've always found owners to be (rightfully) reluctant to part with struggling stars. drew looks to me to be someone on the verge of becoming a star, but their owner may not know it yet.

thoughts? am i being overly optimistic with this kid?

I hope you are right. He is my SS in a deep league where you can't have it all. I passed on SS early to get him late. I did speciifically target him thinking that 20 hr's and a .280 average are within reach this year. I would like to see him bat a little higher in the lineup which would help his Runs and RBI's, but I am not convinced that is going to happen.

i can't see him batting any higher either, but if you are going bat 7th in an NL lineup, AZ is the place to do it. the only downside, really, is that mark reynolds in the 5 hole will either clear the bases or end the inning. hopefully, upton will continue to get on base and every 5th day, you get micah owings batting 9th.

I do not see him batting any higher either. He will get a few days where he hits in the top 2 to cover a day off for Young or Byrnes, but that is it.
