Anybody feel good for Eli? (1 Viewer)

Anybody feel good for Eli tonight considering all the hate he was collecting in NY early in the season?

Him and Philip Rivers turned big corners this season and post season. Maybe the Giants and Chargers were right.

I do feel good for him that he's been able to overcome the negativity he's faced.

But I also think there is more in his future. With only a few hours having passed since the game, already people seem to me to be going overboard on heaping praise on him.

He deserves all the credit in the world for his actual role in the playoffs. A role that is far from an insignificant one. But I think he still has a way to go before he's an elite NFL QB. There are things he needs to improve at like not staying stationary in the pocket until the pass rush or his own blockers are so close he has to throw off his back foot. It seems like there is a place somewhere between annointing him and calling him a bum... a place that recognizes he's a good enough QB his team can win a Super Bowl with him, but that recognizes he has some tendencies that can also hurt his team that he needs to address to be a top QB in the NFL.

He'll always have this one. Even if Peyton ends up with four rings and Eli only has this one, at the dinner table someone will say "Tell me again about how you broke that tackle and heaved it up in the air with time running out in the fourth quarter?" Peyton will roll his eyes and Eli will bask in the glory of beating the team that couldn't be beaten.

Really nice seeing Peyton rooting for his brother. Contrast that to Jeremy "Joe Dirt" Shockey looking angry and drunk during the game.
