Anybody starting Nick Foles? (1 Viewer)

Vick was a Top 12-15 QB in many leagues before being hurt despite not playing all that well and not generating a lot of rushing production. He was getting that type of production due almost entirely to the system and players in place. If Foles shows any improvements over Vick (such as a quicker release, for example) and he doesn't get killed as a less-than-mobile QB behind that wretched offensive line I could see him getting close to the level Vick was at from a fantasy perspective. Plus, the Eagles love to throw downfield and Foles does have a strong arm. Vick was able to hit on a few big plays this season and it's not a stretch to envision Foles doing it as well. He already has one with last week's TD bomb to Maclin.
Schefter said that the Eagles plan to have Foles throw a lot of slants, screens, and other short passes. Reid probably wants to do this to protect Foles behind that terrible offensive line. Moreover, the reports on Foles indicate that he's strong on short-to-intermediate throws and not good with downfield passesThe following article (and the comments under it) gives a pretty good analysis of Foles' first nfl game:

He showed a pretty strong arm in college. Given Reid's desire to take downfield shots and the Redskins' poor pass defense I'd anticipate Foles getting some opportunities to go downfield tomorrow.

Relying on the short passing game has to do with Foles inability to read the field and sloppy mechanics down field, especially when the play breaks down.

Really? I didn't watch him much in college, but Reuter and others have said that his arm strength is average. Moreover, I thought that there was a noticeable difference in arm strength between Vick and Foles. I was always under the impression that Foles' strengths were size, pocket instincts, toughness, and so on. I guess we will find out more tomorrow. Regardless, Kolb's noodle arm put up serviceable fantasy numbers with the same set of skill position players. Therefore, he doesn't have to have Vick's arm strength to be productive

I don't think he has Vick's arm strength but Vick has always had a very strong arm. Based on what I saw from Foles in college I thought he displayed good arm strength. We'll see what happens tomorrow but Reid loves taking shots downfield so I'd be surprised if he stopped doing that with Foles - especially against a really bad Washington pass defense.

Arm strength is his best asset. Pocket presence definitely is not

Dilfer and Mike Clay have raved about Foles' pocket presence

Respectfully and strongly disagree, when his first read isn't there and the pressure is coming here regularly panics rushing to the check down while his foot work falls apart

Man there is some pretty big hype for this kid, and this offense THIS season,

All I see is an epic fail, only QB they have/had that seems capable of doing some

decent work behind that line is not an rookie QB, but the one that got knocked out.

Vick was an epic fail.
And your rookie QB in that spot is WORSE!
It's hard to see how, but even if it is, at least there's some hope that it could get better.

Starting him over Freeman. Need to win out to have a shot at the playoffs. Rain dance!!!!
Based solely on the matchup? I guess I see the logic in that the Redskins are horrible defending the pass. But Freeman has 13 TDs and 1 Int in the last 5 games - only Aaron Rodgers has a higher PPG average over that span.Fortune favors the bold - good luck!

I'm starting Foles over RG3, but then again I hate the Redskins and am a total Eagle homer.

That said, Foles is going to tear it up.

Nope, just an epic fail.. :)

Lol, missed that gem, seriously doubt anyone that started him ever watched him outside of preseason

You were correct about Mr. Foles. Many of us were duped by a combination of preseason performance and media hype. It was shocking how good he (and the Eagles offense) made the Redskins D look. If Vick isn't cleared to play by next week, then week 12 might be the first time all season that peeps should start Car D.
