Anyone else Impressed with.... Vincent Jackson (1 Viewer)

I got suckered in last year (albeit with a low pick) and I may get suckered in again.
We are always enamored with players who possess the God-given ability and measurables VJ has."Word out of Chargers camp is that WR Vincent Jackson has looked "unbelievable" so far. At least that's the term QB Philip Rivers used to describe him. Jackson has reportedly grabbed everything thrown his way, including balls he had no business catching. The 25 year-old wideout had a spectacular three-game playoff run last season, hauling in 18 passes for 300 yards and two TDs, and it appears he's going to carry that production over into '08. Go ahead and bump him up at least a few spots on your draft board."

You have LT and Jackson, and Chambers now has a full training camp in the offense. If Gates gets healthy... man oh man. :lmao:

I was wondering when the V.Jackson threads would show up. We had about 10-15 this time last year.

I'm a V.Jackson owner and will be buying in my other leagues.

I went to practice this summer, he was the best player on offense. "If" Gates is not 100% I can see some big weeks for Vjax early in the year. I also get a sense Norv is more comfortable with Rivers now and is going to pass it more, just a hunch, but I think they will be throwing it more this season. We shall see. For the footballguys 35k, Vjax is a must grab at that price.

:blackdot: was thinking about this guy today and wondering if i've been sleeping on him. if Gates starts slow because of the toe, this guy could be a nice WR3.

Yes, for the first time I'm finally impressed with Jackson.Next year I'll be looking to try and get him at some point in the draft. I liked how high he could get up and his size. There's no doubt he's the best WR on that team which includes Chambers. Rivers also impressed me a little bit while he was in the game yesterday. It's hard to fall in love with a QB that plays with Lt2 and a WR that plays with Gates but I suspect improvements in numbes from both Rivers and Jackson next season.
Obviously my thoughts at the end of last year, we'll see. I do like Vincent more than Chambers for value, we'll see ovrall numbers. I do have VJ on some of my leagues so far, so sticking with my original thoughts.

I like everything about VJax (4th year, Gates injury, Rivers settling in, Norv likes to throw) EXCEPT his brutal schedule. SD might have the most brutal passing schedule this year which scares me.

Chambers is likely to draw Champ for the two Denver games, so that'll help.Do the rules of playing against "great CBs" even apply for Jackson? The guy is so huge, he's coming down with the ball anyway.

VJ and Gonzo2 are some of my favorite WR3 targets this year. I'm grabbing them where ever I can. ADP is about right but they have a pretty high ceiling so I think they have a real chance to outperform their ADPs.

:lmao: If Harrison gimps again, Gonzo will be the steal of the year.

Perhaps Chambers will draw Champ, but who knows. Plus OAK twice, PIT, NYJ, KC twice, TB - it just doesn't look good schedule wise. Of course SD has a good DEF itself, so it probably helps going against them everyday in practice.

And of course SD has one of the easiest running schedules in the league. So hopefully teams will have to respect LT2 and the run which may free up VJax a little more.

he does? 460 and 472 attempts the last two years?

Oakland, sure... maybe TB too. Why will the other teams pose a big problem for SD's passing game?

Norv has only been coach for one season (2007) - and last year was a learning year for a young Rivers , plus he had L.T. and a great defense so no reason to throw it a bunch last year. Plus, 470 is probably an average number of rushing attempts for any team, that's not really a lot. Rivers probably had just as many pass attempts. My thinking is that Norv would like to have a stud WR and a stud RB like he had in Dallas - so yes, ideally I think he wants to throw it more than SD has thrown under the Schoteheimer regime - just my hunch though.

They all have very good passing DEFs (based on last year's stats of course).

A couple years back, Oakland had one of the best pass defenses in football. Mainly because they couldn't stop the run. :thumbup:Statistics manifest themselves in odd ways. I wouldn't sweat San Diego's matchups too much. They'll get it done.

You may be right, plus team defenses change from year to year - it's all relative as they say. Nonetheless, most of me likes VJax this year.Let me ask you and anyone listening this: Who is the true #1 this year (fantasy wise) Chambers or VJax? And I'm not talking about who will outperform their ADP, I'm talking about straight up best stats.

If my life depended on providing the right answer??? Chambers.

According to Pro Football Prospectus, Denver ranked last in the NFL in putting their #1 CB against the other teams #1 WR. Champ was matched up with the other teams #1 WR only 27% of the time. Champ probably won't be following one guy around all day. And Denver had a bad pass defense last year.Oakland had a solid pass defense last year, but Asomugha is matched up with the #1 WR 47% of the time. Overall, I wouldn't overreact to specific projected CB on WR matchups because they usually won't follow one guy around.

If you watch DEN SD games, you'll notice Bailey spends a significant amount of time covering Gates. Jackson will probably get single coverage against Bly most of the time when they play DEN.
