Anyone else look ahead on your schedule (1 Viewer)

I have been trying this lately and it is working well beating the next weeks rush on waivers. For example I have the Eagles defense but looked last week and saw that they had the Giants defense this week (Bad matchup) I then picked Arizona up off waivers who were there probably because they had the Giants last week. So this week I am starting the Cardinals against Jake Delhome and benching the Eagles. I noticed Dodds has the Cards as the #1 defensive option this week. :hophead:

Also ,I just picked up Julius Jones off of waivers because next week he will be facing the Lions. I own Steven Jackson who is facing the Lions this week but will be on bye next week. I will have a RB facing the porous Lions defense in back to back weeks now.

This strategy is paying off for me and I was curious who else is using it.

Absolutely!

Been planning for Owen Daniels' bye week.

Plan A was Finley but his status has nixed that.

Plan B was excuted this morning with the acquisition of Fred Davis (who basically got all the targets Cooley was going to get when he came in).

Plan C will hopefully be executed Friday morning as the Shiancoe owner dumped him and the Vikings have the Lions as their Week 10 opponent.

I lost out on S Greene but think it might be for the best as McFadden's schedule picks up come fantasy playoff time (he's who I woulda let go for Greene).

You should be looking even further ahead and looking at playoff matchups IF there is a high likelihood you're going to make it.

I do this all the time. If you are in a league where order is determined by record, you'll never get any players off WW and will eventually slow due to attrition from injury, bye, and personnel changes on NFL teams.I have jumped a week early on Beanie, Nicks, Collie, Manningham (early in the season; dumped for Nicks since), Wallace, Anthony Gonzalez, and Charles this season in various leagues. I have missed a few others by waiting until they emerge and then getting beat on the WW. You have to be a shark and track players' performances and trends: who's losing touches, who's gaining touches, who has buzz, who is nearly back from injury, etc. This, to me, is a huge key to winning throughout a season and not just at the beginning.

This thread is crazy talk. Who in their right mind would pick up a player more than one week in advance of a good matchup? :lmao:

C Buckhalter has flat-out pancake matchups during fantasy playoffs ( weeks 13-16)

starting in week

13: KC

14: Indy

15: Oak

16. Philly ( their run defense is ok, nothing great)

17: KC

lousy run defenses..even in a RBBC offense, he's going to crush these teams..

FWIW< Portis faces Oakland in week 14. you can probably get him dirt cheap right now.

I love the advice about Julius Jones going forward. Seattle plays

week:team

12: Rams

13: SF

14: Houston

15: TB

16: GB

17: Tenn

it just DOESN'T get any better than this!!

nah, my leaguemates have always left good players on the WW. i just wait until i absolutely need them

I have no faith in Julius Jones, matchup or not.

Think ahead?!?!?!?! No, no, no. You're doing it all wrong:

Rule #1 in fantasy football: completely overreact to what happened last week.

ya, I picked up J. Jones last week in case one of my front line guys would go down or set more than usual.

I also looked at my week 9 Def being on bye and the pickings in one leauge was slim but I picked up Seattle at home vs. Det.

ETA: I picked up Jones in a trade, he wasn't on the ww.

He might have already looked playoff matchups without even knowing it. That is if he holds onto the Arizona defense until the fantasy playoffs.

I don't really think this is a "new" idea ... play the game 2+ weeks in advance especially during the bye stretch.

I just don't understand the repeated sarcasm in this thread. There are probably very many newcomers to this site that could benefit from a thread of this nature and the smart-alec comments by some of you don't do them any favors and just give them reason to go elsewhere for their information. This is NOT an exclusive club just for FBG veterans.

To answer the OP's question......Yes, I look ahead and try to secure WW players earlier than needed. It has helped me numerous times throughout my career playing FF. I didn't always do this. I used to try to get players when I had to, instead of looking ahead. It was threads like this one that helped me see the light a few years ago. Since I have been coming here to the Shark Pool I have gotten considerably better at this game due to the valuable information provided by many posters and strategy threads just like this one.

Whether your team(s) is(are) in the tank or not, looking ahead a game or two for waivers will be beneficial if you can pull off the right moves. It can turn your season around and might even slow down another team that is cruising (but not being too diligent about bye weeks.) Always be willing to make changes even if your team is very strong. It can always become stronger.

those of you that are looking at Julie Jones should keep an eye on Forsett also. There are a lot of rumblings here in Seattle that Forsett's role is going to increase. The fan base is talking out about Jones not being the long term answer so they want to see what Forsett can do. So as the hawk season continues to slip away I could see line up changes at the RB position.

I agree. I dropped Forsett to pick up Jones when he got released by another owner. Right now, this very minute, I am considering rostering Forsett along with Jones just to see who shakes out. I have the room and will likely do it. I'm just trying to make sure there are no other options that could prove even more fruitful before actually pulling the trigger. Both James Jones in GB and Malcolm Floyd in SD are available also. Either of those two WR's might actually be better options for my team but I'm not sure yet.Quick edit: Decided to just go get them all. Dropped Josh Morgan, Jermichael Finley and Michael Bush to pick up Justin Forsett, Malcolm Floyd and James Jones. Basically my decision came down to having stud WR's (Boldin & Wayne) questionable this week and wanting options, plus taking away any chance for another team to land these players. My drops are inconsequential currently and I'm hoping they don't come back to bite me in the hind end.
