Anyone use Audible.com? (1 Viewer)

Have never listened to a book on "tape."

Are different genres easier to follow?

Any books that are specifically good to listen too for whatever reason?  Narrator?

I have a couple times. Only because I have a longer commute. They were both biographical in nature.

it's the only way i "read"

tough to say whats better then others...read the reviews, you'll get a sense of the good vs boring narrators.

I 'read' a lot of non-fiction so its pretty easy to follow. Mostly in the car while driving. Can't concentrate on it at work. I'm on the monthly plan, 1 credit for like $14/mo and then I get a lot of $5 books or 2-1 credit specials via email.

they have a lot of free month specials out there, give it a shot for a month.

Since I'm cheap, I get mine from the local library website and corresponding app.  Selection I'm sure is more limited than audible, but there is plenty to choose from.

I found 11/22/63 to be very engaging in audiobook form, but I rarely listen to audiobooks, probably just due to habit.

I listen to audio books on a regular basis. It fills my commute during down times in football podcasts. Mostly fiction or biographies. I would suggest giving it a try, some people like it , some don't. I use my library and usually get CD's so I can keep my phone free for other things. Going to look into putting them on the i-pod soon.

I use Audible and have used our public library's options in the past. I listen to mostly non-fiction books while I run and if I have a long drive. I usually fill my commute with podcasts because I have a relatively short drive to work.

I'm a subscriber.  I like to flip each month b/w a "serious" book and a "fun" book.  A few I've listened to over the past 6 months:

Fun

  • Live From New York (insiders about SNLs first 25 years)
  • Almost Interesting - 3rd book by David Spade (he narrates it himself, so that made the listen a lot more enjoyable)
Serious

  • Rise of the Robots - really interesting to me, about halfway through
  • Emotional Intelligence - work recommendation....5/10
  • The Millionaire Next Door - great personal finance book

For the past 3 years I have had a 96 mile 1 hour 40 minute commute. People ask all the time how I handle that. I say it is not bad at all. Reason - Audible.

I have listened to over 125 books and love it. Sometimes I drive around the block a couple times before I go home so I can listen to a good spot in a book. You definitely learn what narrators and styles you like and dislike. Mostly I've listened to mystery, detective/crime, and spy/CIA type stuff. Occasionally I have listened to comedies but I am not as captivated. I like series, they don't end as soon and leave you wanting more.

Jack Reacher, Harry Bosch, The Gray Man, Nathan McBride, DD Warren, many more.

**** Hill, Scott Brick are good narrators.

David Baldacci, Harlen Coben, Gregg Hurwitz are some great authors I've listened to.

I love Audible. I pay $22 a month and get 2 credits.

This exactly

I listened to about 2/3rds of Ready Player One on a road trip this past weekend and was enthralled, probably more so than if I were reading the book. Could be the narrator, could be the story content, or it could just be me.

Cross post from the book reading thread:

Vague question, but we have a 3 hour car ride (each way) in a few weeks and I'm looking for something "light, but fun" to listen to with the wife on the ride.  Any suggestions?
Was thinking about the Tina Fey biography (guess I've got a think for SNL stuff )
