Apple removes war games featuring Confederate flag from App Store (1 Viewer)

The invisible hand moved Apple to do this. A lot of people hating on the free market.
Did Apple do this because of outside pressure, or because of "Hey, we're Apple. We're doing the right thing too!"?
Walmart was on the bandwagon that is the pressure they felt. And then they overreacted. At least the games listed so far seem to be more concerned with being accurate than racist. No reason to pull any of them I could see, Especially if you are going to leave WW2 games on and they have Nazi symbolism. I mean if you are going to knee jerk don't go halves.

I think the latter.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember an outcry about places selling stuff with the flag. My main issue is the states still flying the flag over their State Houses. Just seems strange to me.

Getting rid of any image of the flag, just doesn't seem right. It's like everyone now wants to change history. There's no reason to get rid of statues/monuments/etc. And if people want to buy Confederate flag stuff, then sure let them. It's strange, but whatever.

My favorite was there was a clip on the news about a guy who wants the flag to stay because his ancestors fought for it and that was a good enough reason for him to keep it around. Wonder if he would feel the same way if his neighbor had ancestors from Nazi Germany?

Reflex tests are on individual knees?

Do both to be sure, charge twice as much. It's the American way.

Some of this reminds me of that weird practice of digitally erasing the Twin Towers from the New York skyline in some movies and shows directly after 9/11.

You mean the free market that had Confederate flags on Amazon selling at 3000% their typical volume? You can also bet that if/when these games are allowed back on the iTunes stores that their sales will also skyrocket. Here is a screen shot of one of the games in question. Yeah, that's horrible.....
All of these marketplaces will have "forgotten" these rules within a year, if not six months.
Meaning that the flag (and it's likeness) will be available again on ebay, amazon, and others - and itunes will cave and allow these games (unaltered) back in their stores? Doubt it. Well, maybe the later, but not the former.
What does it matter? If you want one you can buy it from any number of online stores.

Studios felt that their movies would do better financially if you didn't see Spider Man swinging off buildings that had been blown up. They figured that people might enjoy their movies less if they were confronted with reality which would impact their bottom line.

That's not what he was talking about when he said "these marketplaces" (which I assume means the ones I listed - itunes and amazon). I believed what he said to mean that those places would "forget" the idea of not selling them.

I get what you're saying...it's just ridiculous and wrong to me.

Guess I'm a heartless *******...not sure...

I'm with you it was weird.

The games, which include Ultimate General: Gettysburg, Civil War: 1862, and Civil War the Battle Game, were removed by the firm because they feature images of the Confederate flag in offensive and mean-spirited ways, according to industry site TouchArcade.
I'm still not sure how displaying the Confederate flag in a battle simulation game is "offensive and mean spirited."

Obviously. It's a hot button issue and they all had to jump in front of it when the first retailer (Walmart?) announced they would no longer carry these items. When it settles down I imagine they'll allow them to be sold again, but we'll see.

The Nazi analogy is terrible. The Confederate flag was not removed because people who fought for the Confederacy were evil bastards. It was removed because it's symbolic of a racial divide that, at a lesser level, still exists today and causes a great deal of strife in our society. I don't think there's a lot of pro-Nazi strife in today's America, but maybe I'm missing it.

This talk of "change history".

Its a ####ing app...its not history. Its an app or game...or stuff at walmart.

Sure...its dumb to take it out of some things.

Nobody is removing any talk of the civil war from history books or things that people will be taught.

And the only reason any nazi comparison is good is from the standpoint that both are symbolic of some atrocities against other people.

Yeah you apparently missed it. White supremacist groups have been using nazi imagery for a long time. And the Nazis did kill 6 million people for being Jewish I'd call that pretty racist.

This is going too far.
How about this?

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial, which has stood near the banks of the Potomac River in Washington for more than 70 years, is a classical tribute to the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third U.S. president.

This week, the Jefferson Memorial was drawn into the national debate about race following the shooting deaths of nine people in a predominantly black church in South Carolina last week. It joins other public statues depicting Southern or Confederate figures, including Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee, that some are arguing represent the country's racist past and should be removed.

CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield this week questioned whether the Jefferson Memorial should be taken down because Jefferson owned slaves.

Jefferson Memorial, Confederate statues enter national race debate
We keep going this route, we might just as well throw all the Southern states out of the union!
If that's the end game here, it has my full support.
If this were to happen we would one of the Southern states to step up and completely legalize gambling, including sports.

None, gambling is a sin.

I do not really care about removing the Confederate battle flag from public areas in real life but removing civil war games because they have the Confederate battle flag is just plain moronic.

At my work we tried to buy a cake and have them draw our product's simple logo on it and they couldn't do it. I guess we should have gone to Walmart, they got skills.

Walmart rejects Confederate flag cake design; accepts ISIS battle flag cake design
Wow. However I'm going to guess the walmart employees had no clue what that was, otoh maybe that's the point.
Wal-Mart Store Apologizes For Baking ISIS Battle Flag Cake
Whew, all is right in the world again.

Had to laugh, watching "A Football Life: Terrell Davis" apparently the show to watch at the time when he was in high school was Dukes of Hazzard and his teammates called him "Boss Hogg". NFLN showed a picture of the General Lee.

It is so nice all these corporate giants can go where their slave government can't.

Corporations buy the government.

The US can't ban the rebel flag bummer that blasted first amendment,

Hey verizon you buy the United States government with corporate donations Uncle Sam can do a little arm twisting like give us all your data.

Yes America you have the right to free speech but you don't have the right from its consequences say your corporate boss.

Don't tread on me?

You better tread that line if you want that pay check.
