What the f*** do you need a $2,000 microwave for? I mean, seriously, you're not using it for real cooking. $2,000 to show off how you have an oversized CD player drawer to nuke your coffee? Greaaaat. My suggestion? Hit up the Sears Outlet, plop $44 down on a cheap 0.8 cubic foot jobber, and spend the rest of the money on cooking lessons, a Big Green Egg, and some prime beef.

I have this where the microwave drawer is part of the oven. In the pic below, that top section is the microwave drawer and the bottom bigger section is the oven. To fit the microwave, you just basically lose that bottom drawer on most ovens that stores big pots and pans. I love it.

It appears you try to spend as much money as possible on things.
Hi, welcome to the forums.
If your house doesn't have enough floors to install one of these, buy a new house with more floors.
 You know the wheels are turning in Otis's head. Its a great conversation piece oats.
We never use the third floor because it feels so far away. If we had one of these I could see going up there and hanging out to get some peace and quiet.

I agree its somewhat a look at me item but for us it also was a space saving issue.

Losing a good portion of counter space for a mic or under the cabinet just wouldn't look as good or have the same functionality.

Considering I'm an appraiser and appraise a lot of multi-million dollar homes I'm surprised I haven't seen them before.

Expensive, but looks like a major improvement on door microwaves.
People swear by them. As I understand it, all the fancy kitchens these days have them.

You should certainly get it then. Probably could have found one for $800 if you were willing to stand in line on Black Friday.

I use a microwave to heat up coffee and occasional left overs. And rarely to steam frozen vegetables.

What is there to swear by?

I think the point is that it's a space saver to have it below the counter, like built into an island. But it's awkward to use a regular microwave at knee height. Hence the design with a drawer and the controls at the top. Again, I've never had one, but the reviews on Amazon and elsewhere all seem very positive, and people seem to believe it's a lot more easy/convenient.

Like I said, I'm asking the question because I've never had one and I figured some people here do. But, by all means, be outraged.

You're going to be mad at me about that forever, aren't you.

Not sure I get the space saver aspect. If can/are willing to drop this kind of coin on a microwave I'll just assume you have a decent sized kitchen.

I was going for "light hearted crossthread schtick."

Otis thinks anyone that says something he consisders critical must be angry or mad.

Who are you, and what are you mad about?

I'm guessing Otis is just confused and trying to relive his bachelor days when he had some 4 x 6 galley kitchen in his Manhattan studio.

I think I paid $800 for mine. Don't know where the $2k is coming from.

Good news, we may just be going with a diredr replacement for the one we have, on the theory that we would like to do a kitchen reno in the next few years, and we can install the fancy one then if we want to. I also want to look up this patent issue, I'm guessing prices will drop a bunch after those patents expire.

We only use our microwave to store bread so that it stays fresh longer. Will this model work for that, too, or do I need something fancier?
