Are "Potato Stix" the worst snack ever? (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
I think so.

These things are awful. They must have been cheap because my mother gave them to her five kids when we were little. They tasted like a raw potato was sliced up and then dunked in grease. So terrible.

Yeah, I went through a phase as a kid and in college when I was burning calories like you wouldn't believe, but no way am I eating those now. You're right -- they're almost raw-tasting.

By themselves Potato Stix are pretty nasty.

I would go with Rice Cakes but I'm not sure what category they would fit in.A few people I know eat them for snacks but I would rather just tear up some styrofoam and eat that instead, around the same for flavor.

If you MUST eat rice cakes - and I was on that kick back in the day - they are definitely palatable with peanut butter on 'em.

I loved them as a kid, can't remember the last time I saw a can. Used to break them in the peanut butter when dipping. Left my hands a greasy mess.

I used to also like vienna sausages, potted ham, saltines, space food sticks and Orange Hi-C out of the large cans. This was at a time I routinely gulped my brightly colored drinks violently enough to to walk around the better part of the day with a joker-like smile.

Love Pik-niks. Love em. My dad loves em, I love em, my brother loves em, my kids love em, my nephew loves em.

But I wont' argue if you don't. Just a family thing.

Right, but peanut butter on potato stix would make them decent....the fact that rice cakes NEED a topping to make them palatable says a lot. To me, potato stix taste like shards of potato chips.

BTW, a ton of Pizza Huts have potato stix on their buffets as a crunchy salad topping. True story.

You try Potato Stix and peanut butter yet?

While not great, they still blow away those "healthy" snacks like Pirate Booty, which taste like.... well.... a pirate's booty.

Don't get the hate, I don't have them often but like them a lot. And pretty much any deli meat/ tuna/chix salad sandwich is upgraded by sprinkling some in.

do you guys not have hickory sticks down in the states?

seriously missing out.

mind you, more than a handful or two and you feel sick... but they're crazy delish, especially on a sandwhich
Similar to Hot Fries?
daaaaaaaamn, I miss andy capp sticks... havent had em in canada sicne I was a kid.

similar... yes... but hickory sticks are just super thin matchstick potatoes that taste like your biting into smoke

I love them tooI open a can of them and I will eat the entire can

They are a great topping to a nice deli sandwich. Who didn't put potato chips on a sandwich when growing up?

I wish they still made Andy Capp Pub Fries. Haven't seen them in maybe 20 years.
Used to love a bag or two of hot fries during bowling league night

Those were my favorites as a kid. As of a couple of years ago, they still make a few variations of them, but they're awful now. No idea what they did to screw them up, but very few things have disappointed me more than that first bag of Andy Capps after not having them for 15 years

hot fries on a pulled pork
Or on shaved steak. The Silo in Lewiston, NY sells a shaved steak sandwich with potato sticks on top. It's amazing, and has been featured on Man vs Food.

Now, for the worst snack ever - just give unsalted pretzels a try. My freind's wife mistakenly bought these for us during a camping trip one year. I think we all had one bite and then played a game where we'd see how many people we could trick into eating them. The. Worst.

I always liked Potato Stix growing up, although I haven't seen them in probably a decade. Since when did we stop liking potatoes dipped in grease?
