Up 33 - 7 on the final drive, under 3 minutes to go, and still trying to score? Is this a reflection of the end of the game last week? Is he avoiding a kneel down?

The panthers had 3 time outs... with 2 minutes left on the clock. What does kneeling it accomplish? Sure they may not have used them either way it wasn't 'kneel down' territory yet.Just wondering why he didn't kneel this week, looking forward to the question in post game.
The victory formation is basically used when your opponent cannot stop the clock and they will not get another possession. The Giants never got into that situation tonight. Let's not generate controversy where none exists.Just wondering why he didn't kneel this week, looking forward to the question in post game.
A number if reasons, inducing an opportunity to get your backup some playing time for both experience and reward.Just wondering why he didn't kneel this week, looking forward to the question in post game.
The Giants were basically in "kneel down territory" early in the 3rd quarter. You could have given the Panthers 6 down to get a first down and 12 pts for a TD and it still would not have made much difference. The panthers had 3 time outs... with 2 minutes left on the clock. So were the Bucs last week... we all saw how that turned out. Point is, the victory formation is for when there are no time outs left and you can run down the clock and not allow your opponent another shot at the ball. That was not the situation tonight. Sure it'll be said "why didn't they kneel the ball" etc. but the fact is they essentially did kneel the ball. Coughlin wasn't being greedy or trying to prove a point. They pulled their starters and let David Carr and Da'rel Scott go run down the clock for the last 5+ minutes of the game. That's a virtual kneel anyway. The Giants were basically in "kneel down territory" early in the 3rd quarter. My thoughts exactly. It's not like he had Eli out there throwing 60 yard bombs to Cruz.He has his 2nd string QB handing off to his 4th string RB. Coughlin can't make it any less competitive.
The Giants first string players didn't take another snap after 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter. David Carr only passed the ball once after that, and the Giants were just running down the clock with the run. I think it was appropriate for them to kick a field goal when they were on the Panthers 9 yard line . The Panthers had three TO's left and didn't take any of them. I'm a Panther fan, and I see nothing wrong with the way the Giants finished the game. I think you are looking for drama that isn't there.Up 33 - 7 on the final drive, under 3 minutes to go, and still trying to score? Is this a reflection of the end of the game last week? Not true. I was thinking a similar thing as the OP (not running out the score, but not trying to kill the clock), but only Manning and Brown were out. Cruz and Bennett were in on the second to last drive with 6:25 left and Bennett caught a pass on that drive. Carr passed three times, including one attempt on their last drive. Honestly, he may have passed more except that he got sacked and fumbled on that first drive. I think Coughlin decided to get more conservative after that. They definitely weren't running out the clock with 6 minutes left and a 26 point lead. They only ran out the clock after the near turnover.Heck, if it weren't for the muffed punt, the Giants might not have had a chance to run out the clock. The Giants first string players didn't take another snap after 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The last drive was killing the clock. The second to last drive starting at 6:25 with a 26 point lead wasn't. 2 pass attempts in 3 plays with all starters aside from Brown and Manning is not killing the clock. As I mentioned above, their last clock killing drive came after the muffed punt, one play after Carr recovered his own fumble on a sack. I have no issues with the last drive, it was fine. The second to last drive made no sense. Why risk Cruz or any other starter with a 4 score lead, the ball and 6:25 left? Makes no sense to me when you had a DB get hurt hitting a photographer earlier in the game.Funny thing is that the only thing Coughlin showed last night is that the Giants are completely dead if Manning gets hurt. Amazing for Carr to look just like the Carr of old in only 3 attempts.Have you ever seen ANY team kneel with 3min left when the other team had multiple timeouts?/this rediculous thread
David Carr passed twice if you want to be technical, and one of those passes was on the final drive, and the final drive is what the OP is questioning, and what I was responding to. I forgot they had a 3 and out right before the muff, but anyway the bottom line is the Giants weren't trying to run up the score on the final drive.'stbugs said:Not true. Sure he could...just intentionally turn the ball over to CAR and let Rivera and his brain trust work their magic'JoeyJoeJoeJr said:He has his 2nd string QB handing off to his 4th string RB. Coughlin can't make it any less competitive.

I agree. As a coach you should never tell your players to take it easy. You want them to play hard all the time. When the score is lopsided, you put in your second or third string guys and tell them to show you what they got.if those guys are running up the score on your team, then your team really deserves to lose.'JoeyJoeJoeJr said:He has his 2nd string QB handing off to his 4th string RB.
