Are the Packers better of throwing their game next week (1 Viewer)

Dumbest question I've seen in awhile. Why risk a BYE and home-field advantage for at least one match just to avoid the Giants?
Best response in the thread. Why others think this deserves legitimate discussion is beyond me. We must be desperate now that the FF season is over.
These giants aren't a team to be afraid of, even if they get in, green bay probably won't play them as they will likely lose to San Fran.So it seems the OP us asking whether its better to have a bye and then play SF at home or lose, host the Vikings and then travel to San Francisco...

If it's that horrible a question - then move on.

Plus there is a little reading comprehension thing going on for some of you - I never suggested they throw the game just that they might be better off in doing so (which I later clarified they might benefit by losing to MN).

The Packers would be urinating in their jocks if NYG ended up in GB for the championship.

The team that no one wants right now in the NFC is the Seahawks. Easily the best team in football at this moment.

I completely disagree. Rookie QB in a playoff game? I would expect they don not fare well - although the sample is likely limited - but there may be 3 this year (25%).

They've had one quality win in the past 5 weeks. Yeah, they're putting up a lot of points....against terrible teams like Arizona and Buffalo. Color me unimpressed until they can win a 2nd meaningful game. San Fran was a good start - although let's face it, without Justin Smith that defense didn't exactly look NFL-caliber.Seahawks wins this year:DallasGreen Bay (on paper at least)CarolinaNew England (big win)MinnesotaNY JetsChicagoArizonaBuffaloSan FranSo they've defeated a bunch of really bad teams, um....had an interesting win at home vs Green Bay, and outright won 2 against quality opponents - New England and San Fran. Meanwhile, they managed to lose against: Arizona, St. Louis, San Fran, Detroit, Miami. Not sure why anyone thinks they are the best team.

SEattle is impressive and a very good team right now.

What is going against them is they have to go on the road to do it and they have not been a very good road team even this season.

New England has plenty of incentive to win. Even if Houston wins early, the Pats can still lock up the 2 seed if Denver loses (and both games are at 4:25).

I really can't imagine any scenario in which it's in a team's interest to lose this week (as opposed to the game being meaningless). Oh, and for those who think there's no reason to get the 3 seed over the 4, I remember having that exact conversation in Week 17 of '06 ... a few weeks before the No. 3 Colts hosted the No. 4 Pats in the AFC Championship.

So you threw out a provocative headline, which you later had to clarify, and you also managed to completely misstate the possible playoff scenarios that undergirded your theory in the first place, but you're blaming others for their reading comprehension skills?

Dallas, NE, Minny, Chicago, San Fran, GB are all in the playoff race. Hence quality wins.

Dallas, Minny and Chicago were all playing terrible ball when they limped into games vs Seattle. Note that you didn't comment on the 4 abysmal teams they lost to.....Arizona, St Louis, Detroit, Miami.

Well if this is about wording things so you can be correct I can't win, congrats.

I think a better question is how will the Vikings handle AP's quest. I realize the more he gets the ball, the better the chance they win and that Ponder really, really sucks, but will a quest for 2K and/or the record cloud their game plan?

Also, I have a very, very hard time thinking the owners will accept or approve of the idea of deliberately losing the revenue of a home playoff game.
So either way the Packers have the Home Field game, also if anything the city and the team would actually make MORE money if it were a Vikings vs Green Bay game. If Washington travles for instance there will be a few fans but I doubt it would be the crowd you would see if it was the Vikings. In the end by 3PM I think the Bears have probably won and the whole issue is mute. It will either be the Bears or Vikings then and I think the Packers would rather have a 1st round bye than play the Vikings in the Wild Card game.

What sounds more fun?

Home vs Redskins/Seacrows then @Falcons

or

Home vs Vikings then @49ers then @Falcons
I realize you were talking money made if it's the Vikings vs money made if it's the Redskins, but as an aside...NFL teams are probably more likely to lose money off a playoff game than they are make money directly, regardless of the opponent. (Same not true for the city of course).

NFL teams keep about 1/3 of ticket sales in the regular season, but playoff ticket sales are split amongst all teams. So they would make concession and merchandise money, where I think some of the latter is also shared. But the problem is the team gets about $600k extra for the wildcard game. That might pay the extra salary given to all players, but it probably isn't enough to cover that plus cover incentive bonuses written into contracts.

Being to the playoffs is probably more of a long term financial gain that shows up in better terms in marketing deals and the like down the road. Again, not the topic you were discussing, but I thought interesting to note.

This is about core logic. If you can't structure a logical argument, that isn't my issue.

You: The seahawks only have 2 quality wins and an interesting win vs GB(not giving credit b/c you're a :homer:Me: They've won vs 6 teams fighting for a playoff spot, hence quality wins. You: Those teams weren't playing good then so they don't count.Me: Whatever makes you feel better about your argument.

You: the Seahawks beat a bunch of potentially playoff bound teams, thus they are goodMe: you have to look at it in context of when they played each team. Some of those teams were playing like #### at the time, and one of the wins came courtesy of one of the worst officiating decisions in history. So while they might be good, it's confusing people think they are the best team. You: But they won vs 6 potential playoff teams.I get your point. They won games against some good teams. We're not talking about them being "good" - I was questioning why people say they are "the best team" currently. Big difference. No idea why this is so confusing....

Yours is improving. Good job. :goldstar:

It's also worth pointing out that if the Packers lose to the Vikings next week, and SF wins next week, GB would then play Minnesota in the first round, and I don't know any team in the NFL that wants to go up against AD two weeks in a row.
viking fans are getting seriously demented. After all day, who do they have? No one. They are a terrible team and I would rather face them than any other team in the nfc north.

Correct. GB should be embarressed if they happen to lose to this terrible Viking team. BTW, as far as I know, Ghost Rider is not a Vikings fan.

Hey, you might get your wish. I figured the entire point of this thread was for GB fans to have an excuse when they didn't win.
