Accurate depth charts are hard to find in the off season. Rotoworld looks to be pretty acurate across the board. I just saw that Blackstock was listed at starting WLB spot. Can anyone comment on the accuracy of that?

It would be great if true

I have heard AZ may look at Cato June. Some speculation Dansby sides at WLB and they acquire a SLB.No real knowledge tho ...

Personally I would like to see Dansby on the weakside just to let him wreck shop in opposing teams backfields.

Hayes in the middle and Blackstock on the strongside.

Although he started only 10 games last year, Dansby finished second on the club with 94 tackles and eight sacks.

From his prospect preview:

Reliable tackler who uses his long arms to secure, strike and explode upon contact. Has the speed to turn the corner coming off the edge or the sudden burst to shoot gaps as a blitzer … Coachable player who responds well to tough coaching and is a solid worker who stays very focused in his quest to play at the next level (much like Takeo Spikes in performance, attitude and dedication to his craft).

Gotta love those qualities.

If he stays healthy and plays the weakside, I think he will compete for the sack leadership, atleast in the NFC.

As always, JMHO.

I haven't seen anything to suggest that Darryl Blackstock will have an expanded role in 2007. If anyone has please post the link; his scouting report always looked promising. My concern with him is that he's been competing with a mess at OLB for two seasons. Orlando Huff, James Darling, and Calvin Pace are reasonable, consistent vets but they shouldn't be keeping an athletic playmaking LB off the field. It's still Clancy Pendergast as the DC, so I wouldn't be too optimistic for Blackstock this year either. Even if he earns a starting job, he won't displace Gerald Hayes and Karlos Dansby from their three down roles.

Jene - the only thing I had was the depth chart listing at Rotoworld. As I said , they usually look pretty accurate but that jumped out at me and it was a recent change (I think) within the last 2-3 weeks. Thx

Blackstock at WLB looks official for now.

The Cardinals want to add depth at the position. They are not expected to bring back free agent Orlando Huff, who started much of 2006, or veteran backup James Darling, who is also a free agent.

Darling said Tuesday he had heard from the Cards early in free agency, but the minimum contract offer came without a signing bonus, and Darling turned it down.

Darling, who will likely not sign anywhere until just before training camp, said he could land in New Orleans or Kansas City.

Meanwhile, Darryl Blackstock — the 2005 third-round draft choice who will head into minicamp this weekend as a starter — is unproven. Veteran Monty Beisel is a candidate to eventually unseat Blackstock, or the team could still use Calvin Pace as a starter along with Karlos Dansby and Gerald Hayes.

The team is expected to address the position in the draft later this month.

I haven't been following this, so I might be missing some context... but this doesn't say anything about who's at WLB and who's at SLB, right?

Anybody know what happened to Blackstock last night?

He wasn't on the inactive list...I didn't see him on the field at all...had no stats....and the latest FBG depth chart had him tops at WLB in the 3-4?

Since AZ played mostly 4-3 last night, I'm assuming he's not in ANY 4-3 packages?

Anybody have any insight?

I didn't get to watch much of the game but the little bit I saw he was never in there. Gamebook has some wierd alignment that I never saw. Sorry that I'm not any help but I'm curious as well.

Most of the base defensive snaps I saw last night were 3-4. On many of them, Berry had his hand down outside the tackle, with the three linemen head up on the center and tackles. Pace played more than Blackstock, but Blackstock did play some. He's just not an NFL OLB, despite his collegiate pass rushing pedigree. I thought Pace looked decent -- not good enough to win any honors or produce consistent stats -- but good enough to hold down an OLB job.The Cardinals alternated between a 4-2-5 and their usual 3-3-5 on nickel downs.

FWIW, I saw Blackstock getting in shoving matches after what felt like almost every special teams play.... :lmao:
