First break at Party tourney. I'm at 1585 chips, average is 1700, 682 of 1166 players left. Ok its vodka and OJ time....hopefully it won't affect my play too much.

Second break at Stars tourney. I'm at 5700, average is 8000, 81 people left, 45 people make money.

This move worked out, but I'm not sure what I think about it. An UTG min. raise is a scary thing and I could've cost myself the tourney here. But it was a very nice bolster to my stack, especially as the bubble approaches.

Out of party tourney. I couldn't imagine him checking the turn with a flush draw out there, so I bluffed on the river. Guess I was wrong. Pretty frusterated about the Stars tourney still and how he called with AJ preflop. Maybe I should've just pushed preflop.

Nothing major so far. I'm down a few hundred....don't feel like I'm playing that well. Not concentrating fully. Gonna try to really turn it on for just an hour or so, then go to bed....would like to recoup my tourney losses.

Thoughts on value betting the river here? When he checked the river, I decided he couldn't have had the full house and most likely had a pocket pair. I was right, and I'm pretty sure it was the right move, but I'd like other viewpoints.

Ended up winning $2599 for this session which is amazing considering that it was my worst played session of the day. Overall, I think the cards were great to me today. I really started off strongly...had my "A" game going for a while. Dropped down to my "B" game during the tourneys and in the following ring games. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this start to my journey.

I'm +$5381 on the day...wow, maybe I should've called this "$100K in 20 days"! Seriously though, I'm thrilled with this start, and looking forward to playing tomorrow.

Thats pretty much exactly what I was thinking. However, its tough for me to add a lot of thoughts unless someone disagrees with me(like on the KJ hand) or someone asks a specific question, as my moves all seem to make sense to me(obviously) so it doesn't seem as if theres a whole lot of explaining to do. But I'll try to write more to make it more interesting. If anything, posting all of my important hands only helps to keep me more accountable because I won't have to face the temptation of posting hands in which I'm embarrassed of how I played- and trust me, when you play as loose and reckless(at times) as me, you're going to look very bad on some plays.

If I'm going to be around to play at night, then I'll play as many $100s and above I can find. Usually, Party will offer a $109 at 7:00 and a $162 at 9:00, Stars offers a $162 at 9:10, and UB offers one sometimes too(those are the 3 sites I currently have money in, although I'm registered at almost all of them). But I don't play every night...I'm still pretty young(23), so I gotta go out and have fun some nights.

Today, I got 4 big ones in plus the FBG one...usually I don't play so many.

You never know what sort of hand is going to perk up someone's interest, plus seeing patterns in your play may also trigger discussion.I also would guess that most of us can skim a hand history pretty well, then go back and look at some of the finer points when we see something interesting.

Is this a fairly standard play? Why fold to the reraise? Fearing J10?

a lot of hands there have me completely dominated. Could he have been raising with a hand like QK to try to get a free card on 4th street? Maybe. But what even then I'm not a huge favorite. What hand do you think he does this with? J-9? Come on. AJ, TJ, JJ, TT, 66 all have me dominated. Calling here commits me to a big pot. I can wait for a better spot than this.

This play by him screams flush draw with a lower pair to me. Depends on what image you have of him, but from MP, all of the hands you say would have you dominated he likely would have raised with. Him calling and then reraising makes me think flush draw, or perhaps lower J. J10 is the only hand that worries me.

But he is raising into a bet and a call in front of him.It's more likely he does have a hand which dominates Assani here IMO.

If he was only raising into Assani I'd be thinking your read might be more likely.

And as Assani said, he will find a better spot later.

a lot of hands there have me completely dominated. Could he have been raising with a hand like QK to try to get a free card on 4th street? Maybe. But what even then I'm not a huge favorite. What hand do you think he does this with? J-9? Come on. AJ, TJ, JJ, TT, 66 all have me dominated. Calling here commits me to a big pot. I can wait for a better spot than this.

This play by him screams flush draw with a lower pair to me. Depends on what image you have of him, but from MP, all of the hands you say would have you dominated he likely would have raised with. Him calling and then reraising makes me think flush draw, or perhaps lower J. J10 is the only hand that worries me.

I agree with the above, plus there's still the caller to act behind Assani. His call of the initial bet likely puts him on one of the many draws on the board. If Assani just calls, and handleit is in fact on a draw, he's now got decent pot odds to draw out and the prospect of two attacking players to pay him off further should he hit, adding another complication to the situation. No way can you just call here. If you want to play this hand, you have to come back over the top of a guy representing a huge hand, and that just seems foolish.Many of the hands I've lost and been upset with myself about started out a lot like this. I called, got backed in to a corner and either ended up having to lay the hand down or calling down bets and paying off a monster.

Wow, what a great first day. Woke up around 1:00 today and did some chores around the house....2:00 now, and I'm ready to get started. Figure I'll go with some NLHE ring game action to start things off today. 4 tables at Party's $10/20 sounds good to me...

Up and down on a few small pots so far, but nothing noteworthy. Have shown down very poor hands that I raised preflop twice at one table, so I have a great image there(loose). Party has a $162 MTT at 4:00, which I think I'll play in. Probably won't play in any other MTTs today though because I want to enjoy my Saturday night.

When you're hot, you're hot!! Obviously I can't be happy with getting my money all in with 2 opponents holding better cards than me and with only 2 outs. But how else could I have played this hand? I had to raise preflop to see where I was at(I can lay down AKos to a reraise there) and to potentially win the pot there. Then when I hit the flop, while I must fear AQ, I have to play it aggressively due to the flush draw, and I really don't think any good player would call that much preflop with AQ(although my fellow poker pro Robert Gilbertz has told me time and time again that I give people too much credit). Then when the turn gave me the nut flush draw, I felt like I had to push because I would most likely have to call anyway(unless I could put someone on a full house, which I knew was possible, but its not like I could know that for sure), so it'd be better to just push then. Luckily for me, as we all know, online poker is rigged.

Around 5:20 now....gonna play a session of PLOh/l8. Luckily, Party actually has 4 games of it up and running.

Wouldn't have made this preflop raise if my opponents had bigger stacks, but I thought that itI might win the pot right there. After the flop, I figure that any low was missed, so I push and hope for the best. Nice river, although I had quite a few outs, and the guy with KJTT made a very loose call preflop, so its tough to feel bad for him. I definitely think that I overplay naked aces a bit too much, which is a leak in my PLO/hl8 game, but I really did think it through as I was playing, and I only played it so strongly due to the shortness of their stacks.

Don't know what else I could've done to get him out on the flop here. Obviously I took a chance on the turn here that he didn't have the nut flush. The results weren't what I wanted, and clearly it would've been better to check and maybe only pay a cheap price for my full house draw.

Eh, these tables are getting down to very few people, and I don't feel like playing shorthanded, so I'm gonna switch over to NLHE. The cards continue to run me over, and I was fortunate enough to log another winning session, despite playing pretty mediocre imo. Here were my final stats for my very short(just about 30 minutes) PLOh/l8 session:

I feared JK, which is why I only called the turn raise. His all in on the river was scary, but I figured that if he called 100 preflop with JK and 125 postflop with a gutshot, then he could just have it. A nice win for me.

Nearing the end of my session and only up a few hundred, this was a great score. I really love only calling the flop here because his huge overbet screamed "ten" to me instead of "flopped trips." Even still, he played pretty poorly here- when I raise on the turn, I think its insanely obvious that hes beat.

Very hungover right now, but I need to get some hands in since the Super Bowl being today means that I don't have a ton of playing time. Have been reading through Brunson's Supersystem a bit lately. A quote that I really liked:

Going with NLHE once again to start the day. The Travel Channel is showing a marathon of World Poker Tour coverage right now....nice motivation.

Up against David Dodds here. I showed him the hand afterwards(usually (I wouldn't, but just because its him I did) and he said that he had a queen....disappointed not to get more out of this. Great flop here. BTW, I've come to hate the limp re raise preflop with aces- it totally gives your hand away. If he had played this more straightforward then he might have gotten more of my chips in preflop. Way, way out of line here. What the hell does he limp from the SB with that can call 100 preflop and then call such aggression on the flop? A-Q with the A of clubs makes sense postflop, but how could he limp preflop? Or maybe he had A-x of clubs and flopped the flush, although his aggressive check raise is questionable then imo, as he'd probably want to milk it for more. And now that I think about it, what is up with 3 people limping and then calling $100 preflop? I just sat down at this table, so these guys can't have that good of a read on me yet! Well, I can look like a great player sometimes and then look like this at other times. Oh well. Still at around even on the day, so its not a huge deal.

Totally misplayed this hand...kept waiting for the preflop raiser to make a move right behind me and it just never happened. Frusterated here. Probably should've folded on the river too, as his hand was completely obvious at that point...was pretty much a call out of frusteration, which I should be better than.

Theory of Poker is my favorite book, but any of the beginners HE books by twoplustwo should be excellent.Edited to add: Playing and posting your hands here or at twoplustwo is just as helpful as reading a book. If you go into it looking to get better and not having an ego like many players, then you're already on the right track.

Wouldn't have made this preflop raise if my opponents had bigger stacks, but I thought that itI might win the pot right there. After the flop, I figure that any low was missed, so I push and hope for the best. Nice river, although I had quite a few outs, and the guy with KJTT made a very loose call preflop, so its tough to feel bad for him. I definitely think that I overplay naked aces a bit too much, which is a leak in my PLO/hl8 game, but I really did think it through as I was playing, and I only played it so strongly due to the shortness of their stacks.

I don't like the preflop re-raise for two reasons: 1) It's unlikely you'll be able to get someone heads up or win the pot right there, and 2) The initial raise and call makes it very likely that one of your aces is already out, meaning you're pretty unlikely to hit a set. And if 2+ low cards hit, you might be stuck...

Very fair criticism. I will reiterate that I think that because of their low stacks, folding preflop was more likely than usual, which is a major reason why I made the play. Overall, I think you are right though....I definitely wasn't on the top of my PLOh/l8 game that day, and I think I made quite a few mistakes and was extremely fortunate to walk away with a winning session.

And yeah, schmega is a fbg poster. He has a decent deal, but I think its only at Pacific Poker, which I'm not a huge fan of. Stars has very little sign up bonus and practically never a reload bonus. Party has a decent one that you can easily find by looking around their site.

the problem is that you won't learn everything playing micros. Hard to bluff or get people to come off a hand at micros.

And yeah, schmega is a fbg poster. He has a decent deal, but I think its only at Pacific Poker, which I'm not a huge fan of. Stars has very little sign up bonus and practically never a reload bonus. Party has a decent one that you can easily find by looking around their site.

Okay, cool. I know you weren't, but I want people to rip me apart. Only makes me better.I just PMed him, so hopefully I'll hear from him. I'm most interested in Stars, just because of the micro limits...but from what I've seen, you have to bet a lot to get the bonuses to begin with, and I'm just not there at all. I'd rather just put 50 bucks in and play micros forever until I learn everything.

the problem is that you won't learn everything playing micros. Hard to bluff or get people to come off a hand at micros.

I'm fully aware of that. I don't have a problem with that.I'd like to learn what I *can* learn in micro. Once I've "mastered" that, I'd like to move up eventually and try my hand (no pun intended) at the gradually higher stakes.

I'm patient. (and, I'm a grad student=I want very little risk/investment)

Went and got something to eat. I was planning on playing some more but its nearly 6:00AM and I need to get to bed. I was upset about that last session for a while. It was my first losing session, and I felt like I played very well. I simply had too many terrible hands, especially at that one table. There were a ton of bad players too...I really could've cleaned up. But then I sit back and realize that I won another $1414 today. And then I realize that my day consisted of watching football and playing poker. And then I realize that there are millions of people working their asses off to make $10/hour. And its kinda hard to stay upset.

Tough beat. He probably figured his sevens and aces were good outs, making him a slight favorite against top pair or JJ-KK, when in reality he was a 2:1 dog.Overall though, you're still in great shape this weekend. Luck giveth, luck taketh away.

As for the PLO8 hand above, one problem created by your two opponents being short-stacked is that if they DO see a flop, it may become harder to push them off their hand on the flop since they're already in for quite a bit of their stack. From my limited PLO8 experience (I am transitioning from limit O8), I know that if you raise with aces, you want to keep the pedal to the floor on the flop unless it's a scary board.

Both of them were getting relatively decent odds due to the size of their stack left compared to what was already in the pot, and given their hands (nut flush draw + backdoor nut low draw, and top two pair on a high board), you can see how someone could easily call here.

Just my two cents. You're definitely the more accomplished PLO8 player, but I'll try to comment on the O8 hands more since I'm more familiar with the game than most.

Always appriciate commentary. I probably won't be playing too much PLOh/l8 for a while though since I'm killing the NLHE right now and because of how poorly I played in my last session of it.
