This is in reply to your post a ways back to me- not this one:Unfortunately yes, I have lost a great deal of my sense of humor. Medical issues/bills with my family and Katrina have worn me more thin than I would like. On the bright side, I am working on rediscovering it.

Assani-Multi-tabling two different games while playing drunk in the middle of a losing streak where you are feeling pressure to win is just flat out stupid. That crosses into the realm of self destructive. Of course you think you played fine: the same way almost everyone who is drunk and dancing is convinced that they dance much better when drunk.

I don't think I played terribly, and I rationalized it by the fact that the games are usually at their softest late on a Friday or Saturday night. But when you factor in the other aspects that you brought up such as me being in a losing streak, I agree with you.

I think you need to remember part of what a player with your style a winning force is not how much you win when you are catching (which will always be a lot) but how you minimize damage when you are not catching. Your style is one that brings you to an edge and puts you in a lot of difficult situations. You need to be in the best and clearest frame of mind to make those difficult decisions, when they occur.Edit to add- I jumped in strongly because I think that many gamblers, particularly those that play at higher stakes, often indulge in self destructive behavior. In the big picture though, winning drunk would have likely been a lot worse for you in long run than losing 1K. Take good care of yourself, especially when playing poker, because no one else ever will take care of you.

Whenever I have watched you play I get the opposite impression. I think you are a tight player that will play a pot aggressively if you have entered. In other words, I'm only playing back with the best of hands. The people you play with, on average, are 100x better than me, so I wonder what they think.

Assani is there a way for me to learn how to bluff with 5,10 off? I know this is what makes you a great player but man that takes some balls. I play on lowstakes and have been successful but I honestly don't think I would ever have the sack to raise with those type of hands especially after seeing other people call before me. Sigh--thats why I'm sitting on lowstakes and you're winning $100,000 in a month

Play 95% of your hands straightforward, 5% tricky.The bluff with T5o is relatively straightforward. A bunch of people are showing weakness and looking to hit a flop. You raise, representing a hand. If you're reraised, easiest hand in the world to get away from. If you're called, fire off that continuation bet on the flop most of the time (read dependant) and you'll often take it down. Assani likes to fire off more bets on the turn and river with a bluff, but play like that will increase the variance of your swings. If I'm Assani's opponent and I have position and managed to flop a big hand here, I'm going to be extracting the maximum by simply calling all streets.

For all you newer poker players, don't look at hands where Assani makes a 'great' play with a total bluff and picks up a big pot and think that's what you need to be doing to be a great player. It's not. Those are exception hands that he makes based on reads, setting himself up with a bluffing table image if called, or it's a tournament and is based on stack sizes or various other tournament variables. If you're caught bluffing, you'll be getting called down quite a bit in future hands, so make sure you adjust your play accordingly.

Aggressive play is good, especially short handed, in a no-limit game. But you need to learn how to let go of your hands, you need to be patient, and you need to play ABC most of the time. Assani said something you should be very close attention to. Play your sets exactly like your play your draws and your bluffs. Sometimes check behind on the flop when you have a hand, sometimes check behind with nothing. Vary up your play to the point where your opponent can't pinpoint what you have.

I would agree with this 100%. When I looked at your hand postings, initially I thought- "Damn- he plays a lot of Q-8." I was about to try and quote them, but I grew too lazy and frusterated while trying to upload some video. Then I saw your posted stats for sessions, and saw that you are rarely, if ever, above 20% in flops seen. So I think your opponents that use poker tracker or are even reasonably observant probably do no think that you are all that loose. More what KevT said- Tight, but very aggressive once entering the pot.

fair points guys...thanks as always for the analysis.Unfortunately I stopped using poker tracker since the party upgrade. I have tried to download the patch, but it didn't seem to help me at all.

My friend, Kent, knows more about it than I do, and next time hes over I'll have him set it up for me.

First, I certainly understand that doubt. However, part of making it is believing you can. Personally I have no doubts you can. There were bound to be rushes and bad streaks mixed into 100 days. And posting your records here makes this a particularly daunting task. You can't hide during those downstreaks. This quest is pretty phenomonal to be honest. I think you are almost handicapping yourself as you go because I'm sure you can do this and will over random 100 day periods. However, putting yourself out there to be judged, for others to see you potentially fail, that's tough. However, putting yourself out there to be judged, for others to see you potentially fail, that's tough. Thanks for the thoughts. I actually really was in the mood to play today, and I wanted to log a ton of hands. Its just the losing that is getting to me. I am going out tonight(and hopefully will be able to follow your advice), but its only 6:30 now, and I have nothing else to do. I think I'm playing ok right now. I'll be careful to watch if my game slips at all. I'll compromise on this: If I make any more bad plays or mistakes, I'll quit. I'm going to try to play pretty straightforward poker for the rest of the night and not get too out of line. I'll go out of my way to try to make the tough laydowns because I know my natural mood right now is telling me to play just the opposite.And, yes, I do fear looking foolish by not even coming close to my goal after posting this all publicly. On one hand it is motivation to play well, but on the other hand its added pressure. Overall, I think the advice can only help me, so I'm glad I'm doing this.

ETA: Nevermind, I suck. I'm gonna play in the $35Kguaranteed MTT, but other than that I'm done for the day.

As of right now, during these 31 days, I am a losing player at ring games. I have that one 3rd place MTT finish that has me in the green a bit, and thats it.

Definitely going to drop down a level tomorrow. I guess to $5/$10. I don't know if I'm more angry or embarrassed. Tough to keep posting these blogs when I'm losing, but I'll go for 100 days no matter what.

I know you're going through a tough time but don't start doubting yourself or your abilities because of a few bad days. You can do this as you've proven time and time again and its just a matter of time before you find your groove again and start putting up many winning days in a row. Great posting Tim. I have no doubt he can it as well. Assani- thanks for porting with unbelievable honesty. You are improving people game's immensely, by showing hands win or lose. I will post this one last time, then I won't talk of it again. I think that you are setting yourself up for problems six tabling, or even four tabling at these stakes during a losing streak. To reaxh your goal, you need to make $1000 dollars per day. However, at the stakes you are playing, you often face a bigger than one thousand dollar decision to call raise or fold You are making calls that you would not ordinarily make when you are on topof your game. You play with a lot of the same folks. They know you are running bad right now, and that gives them more conidence against you, which in turn makes them play better against you. You have made a couple of questionable calls (all went against you). I really think that if you shortened up to two tables, forced yourself to try to concentrate on every play, you would be much more likely to win. You wouldn't have the hige wins, but you would turn it around more quickly.

However, as tmc said,- go out, get laid, and be a 23yo (or whatever you are).

RFW, I'm nearly 100% confident that my game doesn't fall off when playing 4 tables WHEN I'M PLAYING WELL. However, I'm clearly not right now. I'll take your advice starting tomorrow. Good point about just $1K a day too....thats really not much at these stakes, so I just have to find one opportunity a day really. I think I've been trying to do too much at once lately.

I played a little today at lower stakes, and I ended up throwing chairs across my living room. As I explained to my confidante Dr. Gunks today, I simply have bad luck. Today was a beautiful example of what has happened to me repeatedly over my poker career. I won't post hand histories or describe specifics, but I'll say that I sat at two tables and simultaneously got all my chips in on both tables as a big favorite, and lost my entire stacks on both. This is within 6 seconds of each other. And this happens almost religiously.

Now, I know that people are going to tell me that it's impossible for someone to have "bad luck." That the odds have to "even out" somewhere, eventually. Well, in response, I say, who says it has to even out over one person's poker career? Who's to say I simply can't be playing under a hex for the past 3 years and for my foreseeable future? I got my QQ in today against your pair of tens with all my chips in the middle, but who's to say that the turn and river won't make the bad guy's runner-runner winning flush against me more than against other people?

I truly wish there were a way to track luck in pokertracker. Some people have to find more bad beats than others. I bet I've found more than anyone. I almost pride myself in that fact. I am tempted to write a letter to Stars to ask them if I can see my file in their top secret luck database, because I would then have my proof.

In sum, I am a good poker player, and I'm not afraid to say that out loud. I regularly win tournaments live. And, without fail, online, far more often than not, I get all my money into the middle when I have the best of it. It just so happens that the turn and river card always result in the improbable ending where the other guy gets the chips and I have to reload.

It's gambling for a reason.

For all of the reasons above, I hate poker, with a burning, fiery passion.

You are a thinnking man's idiot savant. Or is it an idiot's idiot savant. Either way, you are incredible. Assani- Good Luck. Give yourself a break and be good to yourself. You have an unbelievable poker mind and when playing your best are absolutely unbelievable. However, you don't get any past credit for great play.You are only the best player at the table if you are playing great poker every hand. One false move can be a 5K swing.

Beer hit it perfectly; although I have been hinting around it all day but not saying it effectively. However, just thinking about your game and your run has had me thinking and posting more about poker than I have in a long time. When you are running well, it is the money you save by folding a good hand to a likely better hand that is remarkable. That is what sets you apart, and what people marveled at. That you were picking spots to fold top two but also seeing spots to call with middle pair. Right now, you aren't doing that. As you have said, I think you trying to make something happen and create situations rather than seizing positive situations.

I would guess that you are capable of playing great poker, but clearly you are not a good player online. Otherwise you would not be a losing player for three years. A good player could still profit over bad luck over three years- not a lot, but some. I have met a lot of players who were convinced that they were unlucky and not one of them was as good as they thought they were.

Won a little bit with this last session to help aid in one of my worst days ever. I actually am feeling good though. I feel like I've refocused. A lot of it has to do with all of the support and encouragement I got at FBGs. I will make my goal. This past week or so has definitely been a setback, but I'll be ok.

Whenever I have watched you play I get the opposite impression. I think you are a tight player that will play a pot aggressively if you have entered. In other words, I'm only playing back with the best of hands. The people you play with, on average, are 100x better than me, so I wonder what they think.

Hey Assani, I join the long list of supporters. It is great for players like me trying to fine tune their game so thank you very much.

I know I'm not at your level yet so take this or leave it as you see fit, but I was looking over your recent postings with an eye towards what is causing this losing streak, trying to see if there was anything obvious. There wasn't really anything wrong with your play, it was just what you were running up against. Since you multi-table, I was wondering if there could be anything there strategy-wise to help stop the free flow of cash. I was thinking of that and the tight percentage you play, even with all the bluffs you pull off, and wondering if it would make sense to cut down on the number of bluffs on some tables while bluffing even more often on others. You could present a distinctly different strategy on all tables, thereby throwing off other players also multi-tabling and maybe honing in on those rare bluffs that get you the big pots while dropping some of those that just miss the big hand. Ranging from Conservative Assani to high octance Assani over the tables, thereby still playing around 20-25% (the tight table maybe even getting to 10 percent while a bluffing table could hit 40). Maybe you are already doing this and are switching gears constantly, but it just seems like it could possibly create a way to hedge your bluffs with high percentage plays and still go for the big pots as you seem to like to do. It could also throw people off who you play a few times as they suddenly find they can't get a good read on your strategy anymore.

I've been enjoying your thread and just felt like trying to help. I understand what it feels like to have the poker gods standing on your gonads. GL!

A bad run is inevitable, but the one thing i've noticed is that in the beginning your patience was remarkable and you were making great laydowns waiting to get into better spots.  For example you were making laydowns against big aggression even when you had big pocket pairs over the flop.  You were folding 2 pair to big aggression, and on and on.  In short your patience in waiting for opportunities where you could be the aggressor or where you fell into a huge hand was amazing.

It seems your losing some patience and forcing things a bit, that is the one thing that stands out to me in following the thread from the beginning.

I played a little today at lower stakes, and I ended up throwing chairs across my living room. As I explained to my confidante Dr. Gunks today, I simply have bad luck. Today was a beautiful example of what has happened to me repeatedly over my poker career. I won't post hand histories or describe specifics, but I'll say that I sat at two tables and simultaneously got all my chips in on both tables as a big favorite, and lost my entire stacks on both. This is within 6 seconds of each other. And this happens almost religiously.

Now, I know that people are going to tell me that it's impossible for someone to have "bad luck." That the odds have to "even out" somewhere, eventually. Well, in response, I say, who says it has to even out over one person's poker career? Who's to say I simply can't be playing under a hex for the past 3 years and for my foreseeable future? I got my QQ in today against your pair of tens with all my chips in the middle, but who's to say that the turn and river won't make the bad guy's runner-runner winning flush against me more than against other people?

I truly wish there were a way to track luck in pokertracker. Some people have to find more bad beats than others. I bet I've found more than anyone. I almost pride myself in that fact. I am tempted to write a letter to Stars to ask them if I can see my file in their top secret luck database, because I would then have my proof.

In sum, I am a good poker player, and I'm not afraid to say that out loud. I regularly win tournaments live. And, without fail, online, far more often than not, I get all my money into the middle when I have the best of it. It just so happens that the turn and river card always result in the improbable ending where the other guy gets the chips and I have to reload.

I suppose it may be possible, but it just isn't likely. I trust math and odds and try to use that to keep my head level when playing. It is probably why I play more limit than NL too. I play a live game with Bax weekly and he was always getting "unlucky" and steaming. Well, he recently started cutting back on the beer while playing and while he hasn't really been winning a bunch, he certainly isn't taking the big beats he used to see on occasion. I don't know, I am one that thinks you make your own luck, but when I haven't seen much of your game other than what you have posted here it is impossible for me to say if you are just unlucky or not.

Yesterday was terrible. I was embarrassed to post the results, I was embarassed to post the HHs, I was embarrassed to play like that. But it was an eye-opener, and I am going to get back to my "A" today. I might not win today, but I will play some damn good poker. Going to cut down on the number of tables a bit. Planning on playing in the bit MTTs today since I don't have basketball league. Also planning on logging an absolute ton of hands at the ring games. Going to go gather my thoughts for a while, then will start around 1:15 or so.

Ok...1:45 now. A little late getting started, but I'm ready to play now.

I actually considered folding this on the flop. Wonder what he had. A-6 maybe? Very glad that the turn made things easy for me, but of course I wish I could've gotten more out of him.

So having played in the World Poker Tour this past week has left me wanting much much more. I'm tired of being an average online semi-pro player, and I'm going to try to "make a run."

During the next 100 days, I hope to make $100,000. I hope to do this playing online $10/20 NLHE, $10/20 PLOh/l8, and NLHE MTTs. I think I have enough skill that if I were to have decent luck, I could indeed accomplish this. However, focus and dedication have always been a problem for me. Thus I am going to keep a blog on footballguys and on my myspace blog. I hope that this will keep me accountable. I will check in every day and post my progress as well as key hands.

I don't expect to accomplish this goal. I realize that it is lofty. But I need to challenge myself. I realize that posting all of my key hands may give opponents an advantage(for example, David Dodds reads FBGs and I play with him from time to time), but I'm not so much concerned with that, as I feel as if I mix up my play enough that it will be moot.

Also just for the record, this will not be 100 calendar days, but rather 100 days of playing poker, as I will be taking days off due to different events that may arise(I know, for example, that I'll miss a week in late February due to vacation).

Weird.I'm the opposite. I realize when I come back after a two day break or more, I'm pretty terrible. Maybe it's because I'm new and need a few hands to get into the flow.

I think this is something to examine deeply. I think some people get a sense of entitlement when they start winning (DT and I talked about that in a thread awhile back)- that they are going to win. When you start after a break, it is so nice to be playing again that you can be patient and play your best poker. One guy I used to play with was an overall losing player, but he was one of the best players I have ever seen the first hour or two into a session, and always if he hadn't played in a while. I basically just stayed out of his way. At some point though, he would lose focus, take a bad beat, or simply make the wrong move at the wrong time(we all do this). Then, he would start to unravel. Examine you emotions with the same level of onesty as you have about your results and HH's and you may discover something about yourself.When I used to sit at the table, especially against the same players, on thing that always helped me was to try to seriously consider and evaluate why everyone was at the table- and what they were getting from being there. That would help me play against them much better. If someone knows that you are trying to win 100K in 100 days, they know that you are going to try to manufacture some big pots. They may also come here and see how you play.

My friend, Kent, knows more about it than I do, and next time hes over I'll have him set it up for me.

How can you get a read off players while playing 6 tables without Poker Tracker. I think you're playing at a huge disadvantage compared to the guy who's only playing one or two tables with Poker Tracker.

My online game sucks compared to my live game for this exact reason. When I play live I can get a feel for all the players at the table. I'm usually comfortable after around an hour of play. I actually hate it when I get hands like AQ early because I don't have reads on any opponents yet.

It seems obvious to me that your way better than most of the players your playing. I think though, that something like Poker Tracker would be a huge equalizer for someone who's game isn't as good as yours. Information is the greatest advantage someone can have. If I knew that you play 20% of hands, and of those 20% of hands you play 80% hard, than I'm starting out with a huge advantage over someone that knows nothing about my style.If you're able to win or break even without Poker Tracker than I think you would destroy these guys if you had it.
