psychology question...

Do you think your hot start has helped you with the goal? Obviously, the money helps toward the goal, but I mean it's like playing with the lead.

For me, I know that I play much better poker when I'm ahead and much worse when I'm behind (something I need to work on). Makes things VERY streaky.

Without a doubt, the hot start helped me tremendously. If I had started poorly, it would've been really easy to get discouraged, and I also doubt that I'd have as much support if it weren't for the hot start.

I honestly don't mind other people posting anything poker related here...but if it annoys other people, then maybe it shouldn't be done...I dunno. Either way, its no big deal to me.

how does one play multiple games of poker at the same time?

Experience.I've talked to some beginning players who have said things like "Oh, I didn't even notice that the flush came on the turn. I was too busy looking at the set I flopped. How do you notice all of that?" And I really don't even know what to say to them because I don't even have to think about "noticing the flush"...its just completely natural for me.

In the same way, I can notice different situations immediately without having to really think about them. So it doesn't really take long to make decisions.

I can play about 15 games at once if I had to, but thats far too stressful. I'd much rather stick to 6(or 8 sometimes) and chat on here and watch TV while I'm playing.

So to answer your question, its just about practice and getting experience. Once you've seen every possible situation hundreds of times, it becomes easy.

Eh, I already have a 40GB Creative Zen MP3 player, which I"ve spent hours loading tons and tons of songs onto....would be such a hassle to have to redo all of that. I think I'll pass on that. If anything, they should only add more and more items, so I have nothing to lose by waiting.

I'm interested in seeing advanced thought on this hand as well.I've played a few stud tourneys and believe it's better to not raise with this hand early. My thought is that it's a drawing hand, and if you get a lot of money in early, you'll have better odds to stick around trying to hit that draw. Of course better odds sounds great until you hit 5th street and have no hand.

3rd St: I'd just limp in with everyone else here. I'm curious as to what jjtes' upcard was that he RR'ed with. but KQ9 is a solid drawing hand. My plan for a hand like this would be to call a bet if I hit a club, probably bail on it altogether if I get a non-club, and possibly check raise if I hit a K or a Q.4th St: Worthless card. Checking around is not a bad thing for you here.

5th St: Your board showing is 9-8-4, and you checked on 4th. If I'm another player at this table, I'm putting very little stock in your 5th st. bet here. Maybe you have something like 94 or 44 in the hole, but that seems unlikely. In short, if you're going to try and run people over, do it when you catch a good card.

6th St: Checking was the right move here, even if by doing so you're conceding that your 5th St. bet was a complete bluff.

7th St: You've made two pair, but it's not a great two pair. Fortunately, the guy betting into you has a very weak board of 5-4-7-2 and has yet to show strength. With no pairs showing and no cards higher than your 9 up, you're OK to call here. There's an outside possibility of a junk straight, but not enough to dissuade your call here.

Edit: It's hard to give more analysis without seeing others upcards, so this is a bit incomplete.

Could i have played this better? huge hand on flop with nut straight and flush draw, when he bet 24 on turn, i pushed because i was almost positive he would have to call after putting almost half his stack in. if i flat call, it's obvious i have a monster, so i couldn't check again on river, and the river could bring a scare card for my opponent.

Thanks....I had just played with him in the other tourney. He really was a jerk. One guy pushed, he called with QQ, and another guy called with 77. His QQ held up and then he went on to berate the guy who called with 77....I think berating someone after you've just nearly knocked them out is very low class imo. I usually wouldn't be so overboard with the "icy pots" schtick, but trust me, this guy deserved it....he had been swearing and berating a ton of players in both tourneys.

Something to think about when staring at those losses is "What have they taught me?" I dont mind making mistakes, but I HATE making the same mistake twice.What have you learned?

Edit: Nevermind. I think you did the right thing by putting him all-in, but from a psychological standpoint, I think I raise the amount of his stack, and not your much larger stack.

Or, probably even better, just min raise, and if he has anything he'll likely push. Im not sure how I would have played it, but I think showing that much strength was probably what scared him off the hand, unless he was simply bluffing.

Well its 2:30 in the morning here in California(5:30 back home) and I've decided to stay up all night so that I can sleep on my plane ride home. So I have a good 2 or 3 hours to kill, and what better way to do that than playing some poker. I'm going to be playing on my sister's small lap top, which still uses dial up, so I probably will stick to one or two tables of $10/20 NLHE. Havn't played in a long time....lets see if I still remember what to do here.

Very happy with keeping the loss small here. I know that I'm playing well when I can do this. I think that I got away from the ability to either make tough folds or cut down losses like this is tough spots the last week or so before I took a vacation....glad to see I'm back on track.

Well, PartyPoker kicked me off for some reason, but I have to leave in a bit anyway, so I guess I'm done for now. It was nice and relaxing to only play one table, and I think I played very well, but I didn't have a ton of tough decisions either. I think that I'm definitely back on the right track after not playing too well in my past few sessions. I felt in total control at the table here...I'd be very surprised if I had more than 2 losing days out of the next week...very confident right now.

I felt in total control at the table here...I'd be very surprised if I had more than 2 losing days out of the next week...very confident right now.

Im a total noob, but even I have noticed what a difference confidence makes. I've been playing some NL ring games (MUCH smaller stakes, mind you) and my nerves are totally frazzled. After a few losing sessions, I have become a total chicken####. Any aggression, and I am gone. I'm sure I've laid down the best hand a number of times, but also I have paid a lot of people off hoping my hand would hold up. It's not a fun place to be.Very happy that you are feeling back to normal.

Ok, its near 4:00 and I'm completely exhausted. Had a fabulous day. I think that I played well, but I also had all of the breaks go my way. Hopefully I can keep this up for the next few days. I set a new record for myself in that this is the most I've ever won from ring games in a day. All in all, I won $10,121(and I was +$10,345 in ring games today). Amazing.

A few thoughts on what happens....I start off playing my "A" game. I usually win and do well. I get a little bored of the same old action and the gambler in me takes over. I increase the number of tables I play and start playing in more "action" games like STTs and heads up matches. This causes me to go down a bit...maybe to my "B" game. Eventually a bad streak hits me....this causes me to go on my "C" game.

I agree with you about the break, but I think that I can indeed play without a break if I can just stay content to grind it out. The thing is when I come back from a break 4 tables is new and exciting to me since I havn't played in a while, so theres no need to play so many tables or play "action games".

So I'm going to try to continue to play without taking a break. But I am going to monitor my play more closely. And if I notice that I start slipping, then I'll take that break. And if I can't continuously play my 'A' game, then I will indeed schedule breaks as you suggested.
