A few hands from Wynn $5/10 last night...
Hand of the Day #1
Villian in the hand is a bit unknown to me even though I've seen him around before. Basically that means that hes never done anything to really stand out- Has never been out of line enough to make an impression to me, has never made a huge bluff, has never played a hand ultra tricky. Overall an ok player I guess.
I have K7 in the SB. Villian limps in cutoff, button calls, I complete, BB checks.
Flop comes 7TQ rainbow, checked around.
Turn is another 7. I check, BB bets $30, cutoff min raises to $60, button folds, I raise to $220, BB folds, villian in cutoff pushes for $920 more. Your move.
What I did
I thought for a long while and called. He had A7 and won.
What I think I should've done
Based upon reads on him I didn't think he'd ever limp with TT or QQ when it was folded to him in the cutoff. With T7 I think he most definitely bets the flop there trying to get a queen to play back at him. And even with Q7 I think he has to bet it since there are two straight draws out there(not to mention that his hand is vulnerable to a player catching a higher two pair with a hand like QK or QJ....and not to mention that it'd be a bit unlikely for him to be playing Q7 anyway, although I could see him playing it if it were suited in LP). So while I think theres maybe a 3-5% chance that he has a full house on the turn, I think its much more likely that he does not. I think his range is most likely A7, 78, 67, 79 and maybe a few other one or two gappers. I don't think theres much chance at all that hes bluffing or semi bluffing here. I'm getting over 1.5-1 on my call here. Meh, I don't hate the call but I could understand folding it and waiting for a better spot too.
Hand of the Day #2
Villian in the hand is Pat. I've played a few hands before, plus my good buddy Eddie has recently written up a few hands about him in
HIS BLOG. Pat has about $17,000 and I have him covered, and Pat is very capable of putting a lot of money into play.
Pat raises to $30 in EP and he had been making that raise frequently. I had AA in MP and raised to $130, everyone else folds to Pat who calls.
Flop comes 337 with 2 clubs(I have Ac). Pat checks, I bet $190, Pat calls.
Turn is a non-club 4. Pat checks, I bet $500. Pat raises to $2000. Your move and whats your plan for the river.
What I did
I called. River was a K non-club. Pat checked, I thought for a while and checked. Pat said "I have nothing", I showed and won.
What I think I should've done
The king may have actually saved me from a big river bluff from Pat(him thinking I may have KK). I thought he may have actually had KK or QQ, so I wasn't sure what to make of the river either. Obviously a flopped set or 34s/23s is what I'm scared of on the flop. We're deep enough and he has enough gamble that he could've called with the gutshot 56 or even with 44 thinking that he may be ahead on the flop with his pocket pair. Reading Eddie's blog recently probably helped me a bit, as Pat has been doing this often lately and my call was solely read dependant here.
Hand of the Day #3
Villian is a shortstack who has been quiet for the entire night, and I had never played with him before.
Pat raises to $30 in EP again, I decide to flat call with AKos in MP. LP calls, villian calls in BB.
Flop comes KJ6 all clubs(I do not have the Ac). Pat checks, I bet $90, LP folds, villian in BB calls, Pat folds.
Turn is a total rag non-club. Villian goes all in for exactly $400. Your move.
What I did
I called. Villian showed 4T of clubs for the flopped flush.
What I think I should've done
Obviously I'm wishing I had reraised preflop now to get 4Ts out of the hand. Moreover, while I usually don't hate the flat call with AK, against Pat who had been raising with such a wide range I think it was a big mistake to not 3 bet there.
As for the postflop play though, I think its a bit standard. I was actually going to put him all in if he had checked to get any club draw out(or give bad odds if he did call). I guess I could've folded to his push, but I usually don't give a great deal of respect to shortstacks, and he easily could've had a worse king or a draw.
