Minraises are not, esp. with an M of 6.

Thats completely standard for me there, especially with a low M. Please tell me how you'd play the hand.

I think shoving AA there is clearly a worse play than mine. You critisized me first, so I'll let you start things off and explain why you feel your way is better....

Only after you lay out all the hands you will open min-raise in the same spot. That way, we'll have an apples-to-apples conversation.

AA and KK. Occasionally QQ.I think worrying about people "knowing what you have due to your raise" is one of the biggest mistakes and myths in tournament poker. Take this example here where I made the min raise yet still called by two people.

Avoiding information leaks is really secondary to keeping my range as strong as possible. Just for an example (because I don't know what the rest of your range is in this spot), imagine you are playing "my way". Our hope is that the remaining opponents won't call me with the best possible range (HU would be { 55+, A2s+, K5s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T8s+, 98s, A7o+, K9o+, Q9o+, JTo }). Generally, they'll be too tight (much too tight). But if I take AA and KK out of my range (because I minraise them) the exact same response becomes more correct for them. I agree with you that AA, by itself, is "worth" more than the blinds/antes in this spot. But I think it's more profitable for all the hands in your range to play them all the same.

I used to think this way as well, but I've realized that I am likely giving my opponents way too much credit. In MTT's other players have such a small sample size against you, as you are showing down so very few hands and getting shuffled from table to table so often, balancing your ranges and disgusing your play I no longer feel outweighs playing each hand for maximum value, regardless of metagame or other factors.The lack of sample size, combined with multitablers, how few players actually closely follow the action/use player notes, and the sheer amount of idiots who play so randomly, has further lead me to believe a balance strategy is likely overrated.Note: I play in low stakes MTT's, nothing larger than $25.

When a idiot takes a minute before making a call for a third of his stack with A10, what do you think he's doing? I mean how long does he have to pause to think that's a good idea?

eh, it wasn't too unreasonable and I'll often be in the exact same position: I'll make a raise to steal the blinds, get reraised by a smaller stack, and then have to sit there and calculate the pot odds and put him on a range before making a decision.edited to add: Don't get me wrong- I think it was a definite fold in his spot and I'm not saying it was a good play. It just wasn't that horrendous considering the pot odds.

I understand there's a wide range of hands he could reasonably put you on there, but he was getting less than 2:1 on that call. I just wonder what he'll actually fold there. A9, A8, A5, KQ? If I'm that guy I'm figuring that there's a 40% chance I'm in a race. There's a 20% chance I'm ahead and 40% I'm worse than 3:2. I'd need about 3:1 at least to make that call. Just me. Unless the guy I call has stolen a ton or is a callbox.

Yea, at first I didn't notice the lack of antes....I edited my post...I definitely think its a fold.

All 3 streets on the TT hand I found interesting, could you explain them AF. The way you played it, did you expect him to double barrell with A high there?

Preflop we were deep enough and my hand wasn't huge so I elected to flat call in position. In position, I'm much more likely to flat call and then try to outplay people postflop. If I raise I'm pretty much only getting action from AK or a bigger pair.On the flop I think it was pretty standard. Hes representing a pair of some kind. No way I"m folding. Raising is an option.On the turn its tough. I think his range is still very wide. He could be value betting a hand that is actually worse than mine too(99 or 88 possibly), as my hand doesn't look nearly as strong as it is to him. Getting nearly 2-1 on my money I think its a definite call there unless I had a huge read on villian as tight.

Calling vs raising the flop was the most interesting part of the hand for me.I'm not too familiar with players at your level, but are players going to fold a smaller pair than yours if you raise? And are they going to bet turn with an unpaired hand often enough to outweigh the risk of giving a free card.I'd guess that you're likely folding if the turn was an A, but what if it was a K or Q.
