Astros looking to trade Morgan Ensberg? (1 Viewer)

May 25 Jack Magruder, of the East Valley Tribune, reports the Houston Astros are looking to trade 3B Morgan Ensberg. The team is looking to acquire pitching in return for the struggling third baseman.
Not sure if this has been posted yet....thought I'd share.Where would Ensberg go? The Dodgers would be my guess. They really need some 3B help as Betimit has been dreadful and LaRoche doesn't seem quite ready. The thought of moving Nomar back over there makes me shudder. Morgan is a USC guy. Maybe the move back to SoCal gets him going again. I also wonder if he's 100% with that shoulder.Other guesses on where he goes? The Rangers? Like they have any pitching to deal. Phillies? They could use a power option at 3rd and might have the pitching to make this work.

All good options and a trade is why I've been holding on to the guy.I'm not sure what they think they are doing to his value by starting him once a week though.

I wouldn't mind seeing what he could do in Camden Yards for maybe one of those many bullpen arms in Baltimore. Mora's getting up there.

I'm holding on to him because he's so damn streaky, but his low OBP has me worried this year. I also worry about his shoulder. The Astros can't afford to play him every day at the rate he's going now, though he did hit a homer the other night and it's not like he's the only Astro sucking it up out there.

You guys realize that Ensberg sucks right?

He plays in one of the most hitter friendly parks for right handed hitters and has put up awful numbers.

Astros would love to get rid of Ensberg and Lidge. They have 3 of the worst every day offensive players in Ausmus, Everett and Biggio. Luke Scott and Jason Lane have been awful. They need something.

Anyone taking a chance on Ensberg right now would be nuts.

He sucks right now. But he's been less sucky in recent years. Young enough for teams to roll the dice.

I'll have to disagree with a bit of this. He'll be 32 this August, so not exactly a spring chicken out there.Take a look at his stats. He had two awesome years, 2003 & 2005.He has not been a very good player in other years. Last year was passable, as he had a .396 obp, but he hit 23 hr's with 58 rbi's and only scored 67 runs. that's not good. 96K's in 327 AB's = not good. This year he has a .319 obp  and a.345 slugging percentage  :XHe fiddles around with his batting stance way too much, and the older he gets the less able he is to adjust and get around on pitches.I like the guy, a lot. Awesome person. But, he is not a viable third baseman right now for any team.

Sounds like a guy who needs to move on. Confidence is a huge part of peformance and if you know that your employer thinks you suck it's time to go.

Could be :bowtie:If he was a 27-28 year old, I'd be more inclined to agree with you. As a 32 year old, well, hopefully there is a hitting coach out there that notices something that can be fixed.

I wouldn't give up on him until I see him get a chance somewhere else.

he's probably worth a spot on your bench if you have deep rosters, but expecting Ensberg to gain value moving from Houston's bandbox to cavernous Dodger Stadium is - EV.

But like GM said, Betemit and LaRoche have been AWFUL, so maybe the doyers roll the dice.

Padres happy with Koooooooooooooooozamouf and Branyan?

Dodgers are obviously a worst case scenario. Rangers and Phillies, which GM mentioned, are nice thoughts but are either of these teams going to be in acquire mode? I doubt it. Rangers are already thinking 2008 and the Phillies are probably not far behind.

Kouz has been the Padres best hitter over the last two weeks. Looks like his April was an aberration. At least that's what the homer in me says. Going to see Maddux the master vs. the Brew Crew tonight. Should be a good one.
