Agreed. Can you make Pascal's wager though if you truly think religion is crock of ####? I've asked myself this question many times.

There are a crap ton of religions and the majority preach that they, alone, are exclusive to heaven. That has led me to believe that if there is a god, we have absolutely no idea who he is or what he wants.

my point is why not just sign up for one. who cares if u don't believe, just hope
Because I have other things I'd rather do with my time than get involved in something I don't believe in or agree with?

Is this a trick question?

I guess it depends on what you have to do. I don't want to pay for car insurance, but it's a relatively small amount, so cost/benefit and all.

:lmao: Doesn't really work like that man.
why not?
Did you know that buying a Mega Millions lotto ticket excludes you from winning Powerball, Cash4Life, Hot Lotto, Lucky for Life, MegaHits and Tri-State Lottery? It does share winners with Wild Card. Good luck.

Yeah, I decided to not waste my life pretending I have some kind of minuscule shot.

You can scratch this ticket as much as you want, but unfortunately you can never know if it is a winner

Again...that lottery really does exist.

Tell you what...you send me $1000 and I'll give you 1000 entries in my own personal lottery. I swear it exists. I wrote a book saying that it does. QED

I'll let you know if you win.

Do you think this is a good argument for adhering to a variant of Islam that encourages you to be a suicide bomber?

I'd say it's not. Because while the upside is that the creator of the universe will love you dearly, the downside is that you'll be a contemptible suicide bomber. And you could instead choose mainstream Christianity, which has pretty much the same upside, but not nearly as bad a downside.

And for exactly the same type of reason (though rather different in the particulars) that mainstream Christianity is preferable to a suicide-bombing sect of Islam, atheism may be preferable to Christianity or to any other religion. The upside is the same (maybe the creator of the universe adores atheists more than anyone else in the world), and there's no real downside -- you don't even have to wake up early on Sundays.

Pascal didn't think things through all the way.

God's/diety's don't create worlds like this one and, if they do, they don't control it or they don't care. That will ultimately be the fallacy of religion and if it's not, well, you can always look at the Mickey Mouse stories that were proven wrong thousands of years ago.

Naturalism questions why you are even having this conversation.

And yet you are.

So, there must be some other explanation.
my gambling nature to hedge bets?
The best you can hope for is to break even. ;)
better than losing, and i didn't have to pay money to hedge
Only true if going through life breaking even is considered a good plan.
its better than losing

if you could hedge a bet for free, why not?
Man up, pick a side. ;)
why
That's life. I think Thoreau's "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." is a geeky way of saying that going through life breaking even sucks.
for everyone or him? i've never met the guy
if you are saying that pertains to every one that has ever lived…. i dunno about that.
