Athletes Getting Busted - Why So Stupid ? (1 Viewer)

Ok. Kind of a hot take I suppose. You are young, on your way to truly wealthy. You 'work' in the public eye 8 months out of the year. Anything you do, good or bad, is newsworthy or at least tweetworthy. You have everything to lose and nothing to gain from being busted with pot or cocaine or underage girls or whatever.

I'm not dogging on a young man getting his party on - go right ahead. But for ####s sake, have some discretion. Don't end up surrounded by hundreds of strangers. Don't do anything but drive the speed limit with your seat belt on in a car. Don't travel anywhere after midnight. Bring your crew and a few fly honeypots over to your pad, nice and discrete, and then whatever, man.

When I hear stories like Bell and Blount getting busted for smoking weed while driving, I just don't get it. Go home and burn. Don't drive around hot boxing it when you are young and rich and... black. That's gonna end up with the flashing red and blues.

I'm not hatin'. Just be smart.

I'm sure it's been said a million times before, but money doesn't make you less likely to do something stupid. Common sense would say you have more to lose, but it reality the money just affords you more access to things/people/events that can screw it all up.

You can take the man out of the ghetto...but you can't take the ghetto out of the man...
White suburban athletes get busted too. It's called being young. Doesn't matter if you are a millionaire or are working some minimum wage job.
 I never said that anyone was black or white...just to be clear so I don't get chastized.

I don't disagree with your second sentence though, but I'd argue that you're far more likley to get in trouble if you're not used to having money and weren't raised with good values.

Beyond being less than genius level people, they are often young (not always) and have had their asses kissed their entire lives. Authority figures have likely bent over backward for them all throughout their lives because of their athletic abilities so it shouldn't be a surprise that many of them are arrogant and don't think about possible consequences.

Yeah, this isn't really complicated.

I did some really dumb things as a 20 year old. I can't imagine the dumb things I'd have done in the situation you describe, especially if hadn't grown up with a stable home environment.

I'm not even expecting them to avoid dumb youthful activity. I would just assume they could be more discrete with it given their resources are what they stand to lose.
