Are you supposed to specify which game system the game is on? Or is this just the game itself?

Only thing I could see this making a huge difference is for a game that was designed for an arcade cabinet but has ports to home systems.
That’s true, playing Pac-Man on the Atari 2600 was a very different experience from playing it in the arcade.

FWIW, for each game on my list, I’m indicating the platform I primarily played it on. That way, the OP has the info should he need it for any particular titles.

Just the game, unless it's ambiguous - if there's two games with the same or very similar names then listing the system to clarify which one you mean of the two is useful

So putting it all together and the recency bias is strong as video games on PS3/4/5 simply blow away much of my nostalgia for games prior.

A perfect example is sports games. Yeah people looooooove living in the past. But the sports games I play today destroy my incredible memories of two and three generstions ago.

Very few are in my top 50 as their importance is strong but their relevance and replay ability today is kinda gone.

So I am torn.

My top 25 will be the games I simply poured the most time into and simply adore to this day.

It’s not easy putting this together. I have played so many games in my life (and still actively game hardcore).

I am a console gamer…..no PC games for me so we are all console and cabinet arcade games. I do have a few PC games from the mid 90’s which I poured 100’s of hours into though.

Anyway looking forward to the lively discussion.

Are we generally doing this as:

1. favorites / games played the most
2. "best" games (maybe it was a shorter playthrough without much replayability but was groundbreaking, etc)
3. something else?

I'm doing this as a ranking of games that meant the most to me and that I've spent the most time playing. I dont really care whether or not something is groundbreaking or general consensus "great".

So I can say something like Pac-man, which I've never played more than 5 minutes at a time in random arcades, will not be ranking high if at all, but something like Path of Exile where I have put hundreds of hours into definitely will.

I guess for me its a combo of 1 and 3. If I enjoyed playing it and it was memorable then it makes the list. I'm not going to put a game on my list just because it was a gift or something.

I’ve got 100+ now I just need to rank them. I’m sure I’m completely missing a few but it’s just too cumbersome for me try and sort through 40+ years of games

I'm sorry ladies and gents, but with a combination of limited uptake so far coupled with a reduction in the time I'd be able to host this thing, I'm going to need to put this on hiatus for now. Thanks to those who took the effort to send in a list already, or who were in the process of doing so, I just can't follow through on the project at this point in time. Maybe at some point in the mid-future things will change but I am not presently able to give this the effort it deserves. If things change in the future, I'll make a new thread, if someone wants to hijack the idea, go ahead, I just can't complete this to how I would want.
