Lots of great movies on both those lists, many that I would have liked to included and if I did this 3 months ago or 3 months from now may have got slots over some others. I would say despite some talk that movies are dead or Hollywood has new ideas, all these lists very much disprove that.

If we had broken it up and did our lists by decades like we did for the 80s and 90s, it would have looked like this

00s
  1. There Will Be Blood
  2. Zodiac
  3. In the Mood For Love
  4. The Social Network
  5. No Country for Old Men
  6. Children of Men
  7. City of God
  8. Memories of Murder
  9. Elf
  10. Mulholland Drive
10s
  1. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
  2. The Wolf of Wall Street
  3. Phantom Thread
  4. Her
  5. Dunkirk
  6. Black Swan
  7. Hereditary
  8. Whiplash
  9. Rogue One
  10. Ex Machina
20s (just top 5 since we are only half way through the decade)

  1. Dune 1/2
  2. The Zone of Interest
  3. Top Gun Maverick
  4. Another Round
  5. Tar

I think i counted 41 matches with KP/80s list.

I watched No Country For Old Men yesterday and think that would by my #1.
This list speaks to the quality of the movies over the last couple decades. I really like seeing Hanna and 13 Assassins on a list. Only a couple I haven't seen and just a couple I personally don't like, but overall love the list!

I have actually seen all of the top 3!

Once Upon a Time is a “historical fantasy” like Inglorious Basterds. I’ve read a lot about the era and the Manson murders so it was right in my wheelhouse.

Zodiac is brilliant is the basement scene had me on edge. It may be Fincher’s best, which is saying something.

I watched TWBB and No Country in the same day. I liked No Country better, but DDL’s performance in TWBB is one for the ages.
I have slowly shifted on TWBB and No Country since they came out. I saw both on release, vastly preferred No Country but I've rewatched them both a few times since and each time TWBB kept creeping up and eventually firmly passed No Country.
This was my exact reaction too. I think No Country is a bit more straight forward with characters and motivations so there was a little less to dig through and discover on repeat viewings for me. Blood also makes me laugh a bit too. Both amazingly shot and directed.

Like I said in my early post, I'm way more familiar with late 20th century movies vs the early 21st, but will definitely check out some listed here I haven't seen yet.

That said, here are my favorites from the list that I have seen.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Dune
Elf
Best In Show
The Muppets
Inglorious Basterds
Lost In Translation
Minority Report
Bladerunner 2049

I loved Inside Llewyn Davis which shouldn’t be surprising since I’m a Coens fanboy. Perhaps the best way to look at it is: Llewyn has to make a bunch of decisions, and every single one of them is wrong.
That was one of the surprises for me that it ended with just the 1 Coen Brothers movie. I like Llewyn Davis, Oh Brother, True Grit but my favorite Coen movies are from the 80s and 90s.

I am harder sell on them, only really like No Country, Fargo, and Lebowski from them.

I will always go to bat for Burn After Reading. It’s basically a perfect overlap with my kind of humor.

It is a funny one, no doubt about it.

I watched TWBB and No Country in the same day. I liked No Country better, but DDL’s performance in TWBB is one for the ages.
I like No Country much better but TWBB is probably objectively the better movie.

I've watched both and can't agree. I think the political overtones of TWBB sit better with postmodern critics than No Country and I don't think that TWBB has any claim to being a better movie than No Country other than Jonny Greenwood's score.

#33 on 80s' list and #54 on KP's list. ETA: also on @The Dreaded Marco 's list
Nicely done!... I forgot about this troop of actors when I was ripping through movies last week.

My wife and I used to sing songs from the Mighty Wind to our kids when they were babies...

Well, there's a puppy in the parlor and a skillet on the stove
And a smelly old blanket that a Navajo wove
There's popcorn in the popper and a porker in the pot
There's pie in the pantry and the coffee's always hot
There's chicken on the table but you gotta say grace
There's always somethin' cookin' at Old Joe's Place

I haven't seen anywhere near the amount of this century's movies are many of you, but a list of mine would look something like this:

Inception -- I saw this myself while my wife and her parents went to see one of the Twilight films. Afterwards, I told her it was one of the best films I've ever seen and needed to discuss it with someone, and then I babbled about it for around 45 minutes.

Really good list overall and this confirms that I need to watch more movies as there are so many I need to see. In particular, these are all now in my queue:

Beau is Afraid
12 Years a Slave
The Irishman
Anora
City of God

Delighted to see Martyrs, [REC], and Amores Perros. All fantastic movies.

One that I have seen recently that I feel is missing is The Whale. Brendan Fraser came out of nowhere with that great performance.

Thought The Whale sucked

I'll take "Things to bet your house on" for $200, Ken.

37 - THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD
My wife and I watched this one for the first time last night. Not truly a rom-com. More of a rom-com-dram.

We both loved it.
Glad you both loved it and yes more heavier on the drama than a typical rom-com. I consider it the first true modern rom-com I've seen in awhile and put it in the category of It Happened One Night, Roman Holiday, Annie Hall and When Harry Met Sally for true era defining, genre expanding rom-coms.

If we're talking rom-coms, the best one is Audition. But that's 1999 and just missed eligibility here.
Irréversible probably better, we lost interest after like 20 minutes though and never made it to the famous graphic scene

I’ve said before I fine Gaspar Noe incredibly hard to watch and not because of content or subject matter but the way he films

Doubt I’ll ever find the time for a formal list but I probably would have had Roger Dodger towards the bottom of my Top 100

Madison Avenue ad executive Roger (Campbell Scott) attributes his remarkable success with women to his ability to manipulate their emotions from the moment he first meets them, although his confidence is shaken when his boss, Joyce (Isabella Rossellini), unilaterally decides to end their secret workplace affair. When his teenage nephew, Nick (Jesse Eisenberg), drops in for a visit, Roger tries to show him how to pick up women, but soon learns that his approach isn't as foolproof as he thought.

I've never heard of The Phantom Thread, wasn't sure it was a real movie title until I looked it up. Not sure it's a movie for me but with DDL attached it's got to be high quality h2o.
